Good luck Greg, hope you figure it out... If the board might be wet, maybe give it extra time to dry out.

Nope, not this time. This was all me. I previously had problems getting a good mount and finally got a good one, I finished benching one night and flipped the board and let the ice melt. I did a general looksee and didn't see any water anywhere so I went ahead with another session (had done so previously with no problems). I had all sorts of problems like freezes, bios lockup, failed boots, blue screens. I called it a night and tore it down only to find some moisture hiding on the board where I couldn't see it. I put it back together and it was working fine after the water was dried. I ran it last night and it just said
I tore it down today and tested on air, and it was doing the same thing. Not a very happy camper right now, but it's not the end of the world. It was bound to happen eventually I guess.

Yeah the motherboard is ok. Yeah it's the one in my sig. It's a shame because that was a fairly good chip. Oh well, hope the next one is better.

Ahh that sucks. I've only killed one chip, I wasn't best pleased by that though.

Well, I think I have my first official kill.

Athlon 64 4000+ Clawhammer (CG) CAA2C 0452CPMW ADA4000DEP5AS

Not sure what happened, it was still working the last time I ran it and when I pulled it out of the computer. It could have something to do with the fact that I pumped 1.8V of Vcore through it while air benching though. I put it in my new (to me) board today though and it wouldn't run, just kept putting out a beep code for a memory error even after I tried multiple sets of memory.

May it rest in peace. It died doing something it was probably never meant to do, try to run at 3GHz with 1.8V and air cooling. It was a fairly good chip I suppose, max stable overclock was 2.8GHz up from the stock 2.4GHz with 1.6V.

I'll have to find another one of them now, because someone beat one of my scores on this chip.

Too bad, I thought we would have a long and prosperous relationship.

Ouch. You have my sympathies.
The chip... not so much, it has my annoyance. Thing was supposed to do 7GHz and live for years!

Crap super. Do you know if the board lives?

Sorry man, that could have been the best one around here.

Chalk another one up to INSANITY... Well I guess we will call it a sacrifice for the team but we can blame it on stupidity and rushing things.

P8p67 -- borked 8 wires under the cpu socket, have to look them up, if they are just pcie lines they can be worked around, if not its relegated to parts.

This is what i get for rushing a socket removal, Cause I set off the smoke alarm in the process at 3am can;t say that one went over well with anyone.

Plus someone ate my hot dogs... I was gonna use them to absorb the magic smoke and consume its powers...

Dead 9800GTX+ is dead.
Died somewhere in the process of adding caps and mounting the pot. Don't know what died.
Memory power now has a dead short to GND somewhere post-inductor.

At least ed and Juan have creative stories. Most all others, myself included, are one of two things... I overclocked it and it died, or it worked fine last time I shut down and now something is dead.

BTW, happy fathers day to all our dads subscribed to this thread. Hope you enjoy some time with loved ones.

Spending this weekend with family, and its been a good fathers day so far for me... Spent the night by the camp fire ring with my dad, brother in law, and grandpa. Got my grandpa a new fire ring, got my dad a new cooler (he put about 30 years on his last one)... Got use out of both tonight.

I have vague intentions in the direction of finding the short by supplying it with Plenty of Amps and seeing what explodes.
Doing so without frying any/all working ram (which I might want to have TJuan put on another GDDR3 card) means convincing a PSU that 2v is the new 3.3v and SCP is for suckers. Totally doable, just a question of whether I'm dedicated enough.

TJuan has a better story than I do this round.
