Firefox in Ubuntu

Where are the firefox files in Ubuntu? I want to move my Bookmarks and setting from Windows to firefox. I did it before but cannot remember how.

They are found in your home folder (~), specifically:

~/.mozilla
/home/username/.mozilla

Those are the same path if you are logged in as that user. You can copy from Windows to Linux, if you didn't know. If you can't see the folders, check the menus for an option to show hidden files.

No mozilla folders. Do not know what the other stuff you posted means.

Does this link help? It shows how to enable hidden folders/files for Ubuntu. I'd try enabling this first and then opening your home folder. As long as you've run Firefox once, that folder should exist.

The paths I was posting is if you were doing it from the command line. For example, if you opened a terminal and typed:

ls -a ~/.m*

You should get something like this:

Code:
[thideras@pascal ~]$ ls -a ~/.m*
.macromedia:
. .. Flash_Player

.mozilla:
. .. extensions firefox
[thideras@pascal ~]$
Which you can see the mozilla folder listed. Sorry if that is confusing, I'm not sure how familiar you are with Linux. The tilde is just a shortcut for your home folder (/home/username). The period before "mozilla" means that it is a hidden folder.

On the link it states:
Places >> Home folder >> and then display hidden files/folders through the File Management Preferences: >>

On my home folder I do not see a Management Pref or edit options.

Hmm, there used to be an "Edit" menu you would click to go to preferences. Trying pressing the "alt" key once to see if it shows. If that doesn't work, open a terminal (ctrl + alt + t) and type the following:

Code:
gsettings set org.gnome.nautilus.preferences show-hidden-files true

I got the hidden open, moved some bookmarks. Now it says Firefox is running and I cannot get it to open. I do not see it in processes.
And I tried a restart.

From a terminal, type:

Code:
killall firefox
If that still gives you trouble, do:

Code:
sudo killall firefox

Did you copy the folder while firefox was running? Go into your ".mozilla" folder, into the "firefox" folder and into the random looking named folder (mine was "ty7av3w2.default"). If there is a file in here called "lock", delete it and try again.

The funny part is the last time I installed Ubuntu it was simple to just move my bookmarks folder from a flash drive to the firefox folder. This time I delelted the file in mozilla folder and put my folder in it's place closed and reopened and the old folder was still there.

Interesting, I dont usually have a problem just dropping my .mozilla back in place... in fact that is what I did this time when I upgraded to Mint 13

Maybe I should try just replacing the the whole Mozilla file in Ubuntu with the one in windows? Is it possible?

You should know better then to think I am doing something the way I should.
When I get ready to try again how should I do it? I will have Mozilla from windows on a thumbdrive.
