At the price of the EVO I will be happy with what it will get me in the beginning. If my need to scratch the itch of OC'ing continues I will go from there with a new solution. As I was new to OC i figured I should take small steps

I have been thinking about all this and I was wondering something, Is there a point in OC where the increased speed of the chip begins to pay more dividends in the performance category ?

I mean if my CPU runs at 3.4 ghz jumping up to 3.6 or 7 isn't going to be much of a jump as it relates to performance in app's and games etc. Do you have to get to a certain point to gain some noticeable improvement ?

I realize that 99% of any increase in performance won't be noticeable to the eye or anything. I also realize that each chip will perform differently from it's mates of the same bin. However If I get to say 4.5 (example) will you look at your latest bench marks and go "That's what Im talking about" ?

Just the things that keep me awake
Here is some bench marks so you can see the difference.http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/201...3770k-review/4

Check the gaming performance though.. And you'll find the performance gap close a lot. Especially once OC'd.. So for a gaming rig; go for whats cheapest and most effective for you. If you're doing other stuff.. Well again up to you. I look for price/performance. (most of the time )

Has anyone tried running and clocking the SB 2550K ? I never really see where many if any seem to use it. It's not very much more and of course neither is any performance gain however it's a 95W with no IGP. This is something that intrest's me I just always want something just a bit different, I would spend the extra 30 bucks just to have a different sku. LOL.

Im sure I know the answer, it's the price/performance thing mostly im sure. Just wondering if anyone has played with this chip.

Far as I've seen. None of the 2550ks are binned any better than 2500ks. But I could be wrong.. personally if you're going to spend extra. Get the 3570k. Then get a slightly beefier heatsink for it.

Good thought on the 2550, it's probably just a 2500 anyway. lol Does the lack of graphics provide any advantage ? I assume not or it would be common knowledge.

I also saw a i7-3820-E in Microcenters ad for 199 bucks. Not to shabby and big smart cache but a locked core :/ Still should be pretty darn fast though. Im like a child every time I see something my mind goes into hyper mode.

I believe you can still oc it? That's 2011 socket though. Much more expensive as a platform.

Yeah, Im not going that way but it looks like a nice price. If you have a Microcenter close by they got the best CPU prices for sure

Isn't it only turbo mode one core 5 bins above 3.8GHz, so it would be 4.3GHz on one core.
