X79 Sabertooth SSD caching issue

This has been quite the adventure. I have a 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3 connected to the Marvell controller with a OCZ Colossus 256GB SSD. When I enter the ASUS SSD Caching utility both drives are displayed, but the enable caching button is greyed out. After much searching and pulling out a few hairs I noticed that a harddrive icon is displayed next to both of my drives. I imagine this means the ASUS SSD Caching software is not detecting my OCZ Colossus as a SSD. The Colossus is a SATA2 drive not a SATA3.

Anyone know a solution for this issue.

First the MB wouldn't boot to my HD until I swapped the SSD and HD between sata port E1 and E2. I had to call tech support on that one because there was nothing in the manual regarding which port the SSD and which port the HD were supposed to be contected. The ASUS support website looks like something out of the 90's and is about as slow.

Thank you! I appreciate the help with this issue.

Why are you using the E1 and E2 ports?

IIRC, those are powered by... maybe Marvell? or any other third-party contoller, and you don't want that.

The drives are supposed to be connected to the white Marvell ports (SATA6G_E1 & SATA6G_E2). Other than that, in the BIOS both the Marvell Storage Controller and Marvell Storage OPROM should be set to Enabled .

What for? Why don't you use Intel Rapid Start Technology? (or however it's called)?

In order for Asus' SSD caching to work, the drives have to be connected to the Marvell controller.

I'm attached to the Marvell ports. It must not be recognizing my older slower
SataII OCZ Colossus as a SSD.
