What Program Do You Use to Erase Your Data? Anyone Use Eraser?

I've been trying to find a legitimate review on the Program Eraser which I've been using for a while to get rid of my left over iso files and what not. The program apparently does a run through of the file doing a random digit replacement of anything much like DBAN would do wiping an entire hard drive, but it does it with only said data. What do you use to get rid of big chunks of hard drive space? Have you ever used eraser? Is there any way I can test the results?

My boss swears by dban, however I just don't see any advantage over firing up a linux livecd and running dd if=/dev/random of=/dev/sdX . Run that a couple times and then do a dd if=/dev/null of=/dev/sdX and you're done.
