to be honest I was going to get a reference GTX 670 but I decided to go with a custom because of better cooling, silence and mainly performance wise, and after I saw that the reference gtx 670's have a really small PCB and to make it look bigger they extended the cooling. really crappy, the short PCB was just a turn off straight away.

here is my 3dmark11 scores at Extreme settings.

Name: GTX 670 Overclocked to 1228MHz boost and CPU 3.9GHz all cores extreme run.JPG
Views: 145
Size: 188.2 KB

one thing to note I have put my CPU clock at turbo 3.9GHz on all cores, just to see the difference from 4.5GHz. at 4.5GHz the physics score for the CPU Is 9530. not much difference from 3.9GHz In my opinion

Hi this is my first post on this forum =)

I just got a gigabyte gtx 670, and I was running some benchmarks on stock to make sure everything works as it should. Now I want to try to OC.. But Im curious what program to use.. I installed gigabyte OC guru 2.. But many dont seem to use this.. So what is the best program to use? Or should I just use gigabytes program ?

Hey mate. I would recommend MSI Afterburner because It works muuch better , I have tried all the other utilities for overclocking a GPU but never been happy with them . I been using MSi afterburner for like 5 years now and it is definitely the best out there. also very simple.

by the way once you have overclocked your gigabyte gtx 670 please let me know the results you get.

my highest most stable overclock for 24/7 is +100MHz and +400 on the memory and that gives me a boost clock of 1228MHz in some cases it hits 1237MHz.

My oc result is +101 on core clock +500 on memory , power limit at max.
Giving me a max boost clock of 1250. Im happy with it.

you are lucky mate, your overall boost is higher then mine. also what is your boost clock speed at stock???

Mine hits 1224MHz at stock, out of the box.

I can hit 1250MHz but i have to put +130 on the core.

Soon I will post a new updated picture of my system, I have made a few changes.

My stock boost max was actually 1150 mhz (MAX under load ,such as heaven benchmark) so I only gained 100 mhz . Duno if its good or bad.. Heaven benchmark crashed when I used +111 so I just moved it down to +101 core and it works.

My overclock gained me +450 points in 3dmark 11 compared to stock. Giving me a total score of 9450.

what processor you running with? And yer 1150 out of the box aint bad at all. Similar to mine. a 1250mhz clock is a solid OC!

Agree that Afterburner is the app to use. Make sure to unlock the voltage controls (search google...just need to change a couple entries in the ini file). If, after overclocking, you've still got temp headroom then search for NiBiTor (and a guide) so you can modify your bios. Most common bios mod folks do is up the max voltage to 1.21v.

lucky! where did you get the card from? mine does 1124 out of the box I think It is the lowest boost clock for a Gigabyte GTX670 OC card.

Yes...created a modded bios for my gtx 570, simple and works like a charm. Do a search for NiBiTor...great app and there's a couple of very nicely detailed guides. The process is very safe (and reversible) as long as you follow the directions. There's also an app named Fermi Editor (or something like that)...works just as well but I found NiBiTor easier somehow.

Make sure to backup your original bios before flashing the card to a new one!

I red a little about it. how about if i use the gigabytes VGA Bios Software? since I have a gigabyte GPU??? and does this process have to be done inside the OS only?

I'd recommend using NiBiTor (or Fermi Editor). Everything takes place within the windows environment (editting bios then flashing). The flashing itself doesn't have to be from within windows but that's how I did it.

Thank you for your Info mate, I have updated my GTX 670 OC Bios but one thing i have not seen is any difference with the new Bios version. I still can not raise the voltage above 1.175???

btw i downloaded the latest MSI Afterburner 2.2.4 which supposed to fix the voltage issue.

You followed the NiBiTor guide and changed the right settings to get it to 1.21v? Also...search here: http://www.mvktech.net as there may already be a bios out there for you to use. It should work...not sure what bios f4 is.

I did not use NiBitor instead i used the recommended Gigabyte software to update the Bios for a Gigabyte card and at the gigabyte site there was only F4 Bios and F12. btw I ended up re-flashing the Bios to its original version because I did not see any increase in performance or the voltage but instead i saw that my overclock settings that i was using before got worse with the new Bios version. GPU-Z shows BIOS version 80.04.19.002E and the gigabyte software shows F2 Bios.

So...if you want the 1.21v you'll either need to find a modded bios for your card at mkv or use NiBiTor to make your own.
