there seem to be 'no' failures after ~2 weeks of runing
and only ~2% of the earliest pumps are affected

just set your bios to shutdown at 55°C or so
some have reported hearing the pump make noise before the bearing failure

be cool

Thanks for the help.

I already have the shutdown temp set, this is always the first thing I do.

I will keep an eye out and hope nothing goes wrong. The pump did make a strange noise when I first had it running and I guessed that was it just bedding in.

I just ordered an MCP600 to cool my brand new dual xeons, and all this talk of pump failure is making me regret not purchasing a flow meter!

Wow, the original washer must have really been soft. There's isn't any of it left except for a little bit of white stuff near the area where is used to be. I also pulled a little white ring off of the shaft mount on the housing. I think that it was all that was left of the washer.

Wouldn't it just be cheaper to send replacement washers? I didn't notice any damage to the impeller or housing, although my pump did not stop running.

MCP600 Dying

As a matter of fact, i am not lucky....

Pump is starting to die, 1 month after installation... worked flawless until this morning... 23th of december... geez, christmas and no PC...

I checked out and saw that the pump was failing, and drained all the liquid to make sure it wasn't liquid or air related... no air or whatsoever was found, and when i started it back, it wasn't pumping... after a few on/off, the pump started to work...

Now, i wonder, i know there is a warranty on this, but right now, if i ask Swiftech to send me a pump before i remove this one and get rigless for 2-4 weeks, would they send one out before i send the one that is dying? I emailed them about this, but didn't got a answer yet... december 23... i doubt i get an answer before january anyway...

Rassal, email michelle@swiftnets.com, she handles all the RMA issues, and a really nice lady too. I myself have had a failed pump as you can see I started the thread. Anyhow, you'll get taken care of accordingly, don't worry. In my case, I sent in my pump and recieved a replacement the next week. I have a friend that also had his MCP600 fail on him and all he did was send in the front head unit and they cross-shipped a replacement head. I'm assuming that's how they're currently handling failed pumps. They should contact you on the second business day, don't worry, you won't have to wait long, Swiftech is a top notch company.

Hell Yes

Hell yes i was answered, just took Swiffy a few hours which was suprising awsome service on December 23rd... but unfortunatly, i got told that Swiftech sended heads to the distributor, and i got no idea of who it is... So i got back to the store today, and because his distributor is so damn slow, it might take a month because of the holidays... so Swiftech is indeed fast, but the way i am treated... redirected to distributor instead of dealing directly with swiftech makes me wonder... who's the client, the distributor or the end buyer...

I am very satisfeid of the whole kit i got, running quiet and smooth, but the service they give to their customers could be a tad better... I know it's a negative point, but i think that if i was a manufacturer, and a custumer that bought our product had a problem, i wouldn't slap him in the face with a " Contact your distributor, he'll get you this head replaced ".... well, something like that make me reconsider my opinion about their customer service...

Billa, i know i got fast answer, but how the hell am i supposed to answer this question i got asked:

Here are the 2 answers i got....

contact your retailer. This is a simple swap of the pump head (not the body), and they have the part in stock.

Best Regards,

Gabe

And the second email:

Hi Dennis,
All you have to do is have the pump head replaced. Which Swiftech distributor did you buy the cooling kit? I know we have shipped a couple of pump head replacement to our distributors so please let me know if you will be able to get one from them.

Regards,
Michelle

I don't know who the distributor is... i bought it from CIPC-INFO in montreal, Quebec... and he told me he has the same distributor as Bigfoot Computer has in Toronto Canada... which is not known from me... My retail store has my pump, and will take care of it... but he told me it would take as up to a month for that... heck, i had the system barely for 1 month, and i will have to wait one month for a replacement part... come on....

The reason i know it will take long, as my retail store told me, is because i ordered a second MCR80-F1 when i pickuped my kit a month ago, and still haven't received it yet...

Now, swap yourself with me... and tell me... Good service would be like APC does when you order a replacement UPS or when you got a failed one... You call them up, tell them your problem, they send you a new unit, and give you a prepaid UPS tag to send your failed unit/battery once you received the new one... 2-3 days after you took the order... THIS is good service, they don't redirect you to a crappy distributor, which is always unknown to the end client... and worst, they won't tell you to check with your retail store as the only solution...

Basicly, my retail store has the pump, will take care of it, but it will take a lot of time, which is unnaceptable for me when you contact the company directly, and they slap you back to a delayed fix by a distributor and/or retailer...

And no, my retailer doesn't have the part in stock, like Gabe said in his email answer...

So i answered back to Michelle about my concerns... but becaus of the holidays i won't get answered as fast as i was on december 23rd...

BillA,

I want to stand the mcp600 up on one end. Which end would be the best?

I'm guessing the motor side down.

any position is fine
if you set it on the flat backside (with some foam) it will be virtually inaudible

I'm one of the mcp600 users that got the replacement pump head with the smaller impeller and I now hear that the final ver. 2 pump head, with the original large size impeller and some new ceramic pieces, is out. does anyone know if swiftech is going to send out the final head to those of us that got this "patch" head???????????

yes, but . . . .
we can't offer them until we get them
- awaiting a delivery schedule now

pumps now shipping are the 'final', just waiting on a quantity of the pump heads to make replacements

is this performance curve (reasonably) accurate for the "final" pump head?

Just found out about this thread today. Mine died a couple of months ago. I noticed similar crap in the fluid I was using (white cloudy substance and minute black particles). I thought it was because I mixed radiator coolant with UV reactive dye. I tried cleaning it out (the impeller end) but same story. Have just emailed Michelle as I'd like to know what the solution for me will be as I bought it here in Australia from a local online retailer. I practically gave up on water cooling but it looks like I might stick with it a little longer now . Good thread ! Good contributors ! Keep up the good work guys !

Hi!

First mcp600 what I bought did die just couple of hours... I think they(shop in Finland) sold me used pump ,because in the package where nothing else just that pump.. No instruction no screws nothing..
I did get new one but it did make lots of noice and I mailed to swiftech and received new pump head ,but the noice is still there . Could it be motor bearings?
And why there is 1 or 2 millimeter gap in rotor(it moves along the axel) Could that be where noice comes from?
Can I run pump less than 12Volts? I put my fans in night 12>6 volts and I could put pump to 6 volts too if it works so?

well its been over 2 months since my brother has had his FINAL PUMPHEAD (he had the original head crap out on him and instead of the small impeller head he got the one with ceramic parts and full size impeller) in use and I'm still waiting for swiftech to send out the replacement for the chump replacement pump head with the smaller impeller that they said would just be a "PATCH HEAD" untill the final heads were ready. I wrote to swiftech 3 or 4 times over the 2 months that I know that the heads have been out and all they tell me is that they are waiting a delivery schedule? I dont know about the rest of the people in this forum but I for one did not pay $80 to have a pump that does not meet the performance claims on their site, and come on 2 months for a delivery schedule????? HEY swiftech thanks for taking care of your customers!
P.S. I bought the pump off their site

Sorry to hear that, after constant follow-ups, I was able to get the final pumphead just a couple of weeks ago, so I know they're available. When was the last time you were contacted by Swiftech?

Wow, this has been a very interesting thread. I'm going to get a WC setup soon once I get in the money. Going to get everything part by part. Mainly DangerDen and SwifTech with some Tygon tubing.

There is always an exception to the rule,I called swiftech and the owner answered.I also got a call back from BillA with in 48 hours. I am surprised to here you are having a problem with there service because I trust them to be totally up front and willing to help. Maybe you should call them, I know someone will answer and if not able to help you, someone most likely BillA will call you back.

I agree, I've had nothing but good experiences with Swiftech, I also think you should give em a call, you should be able get things moving that way.
