OK i fired up my IQZFA 0349 M2500
well i used to run my old barton 2500 at 1.7 V at 2370 on water @ 43-47C (35-37C Amb. temp.)
NOW 2500Mobile runs 2450 (so far) at 1.85V AT 60C (SIXTY)...
I was very dissapointed to see that it runs so HOT!!!
i checked my WB twice to make sure it makes good contact...i still think it doesn't sit properly, cos the WB itself is not that hot...
now i'm rethinking my cooling setup....maybe i should eliminate NB WB and HDD WB to make flow better....also maybe i need new block design....i run fans at 7 volts cos i can't stand noise.....it's wiered cos i did not have this problem before....
I feel that this chip has GREAT potential and could go up to 2700MHZ since it went straight to 2300 at 1.5V...
Maybe i need some burn in....
Untill i figure out what's going on i can't OC any more....i mean i can...but i'm afraid it's gonna fry.......TOO DAMN HOT!!!
I almost want my OLD desktop Barton 2500 BACK
(but it was locked and i sold it)

bad news? I think not. There are no awards for hitting 3ghz and it has been done before with amd's. Rather, I am glad to see it is indeed possible with one of these mobile chips. I hope everyone gets the highest clocks that they can - personally, I plan on keeping this setup until athlon 64's, DDRII, BTX, SATA, and PCI Xpress are nice and cheap. So I am in no rush - I likely have a nice long wait!

There are a number of peeps who have broken the 3ghz mark. I just hope that the steppings keep getting better. We might hit 3.5 in a couple of months

Been following these discussions for a few days, got bit by the bug and got a 2500 coming from Newegg for the Abit. You guys have done some good work with these mobiles. Came across a review with lots of benchmarks and comparisons done by Tech Report. Their OC was limited to multiplier tweaks and not increasing the FSB so it probably affected some of the results.

I found this to be my favorite setting...

Nice bandwith, good performance, and stability.
The overall clock speed is low but the 250 FSB makes up for it

maybe I can go higher after a burn in, but I have no desire to push the chip any more. All you people with 2.7+, damn nice job. Anything over 2650 right now I can't do... can't figure out why either.

I would like to update calling my 2400M stable at 2650MHZ. Not Prime95, but its been folding at these speeds all day. Anyone with a DFI board wanna help me out with a voltmod. I think 2800MHZ might be in reach

Nah, it isn't bad news at all

3 GHz is a personal goal for most, if not all of us . I remember back when I was so excited about getting my first DLT3C Thoroughbred 'B', a 1700+, up to 2200 MHz - I sure wasn't the first to do it, and it wasn't even that impressive. That chip ended up doing 2500 Mhz on air, and could have gone farther with better cooling.

With improved yields, people's standards are up. 2400 MHz doesn't turn too many heads any more, even though it is an extremely impressive overclock.

It's all about making the best of your cooling, and the rest of your system, to go as far as you can .

LOL! Cow2kie certainly has a bit of a lead on us . I haven't even installed my chip to see if it works yet

I updated results again. I need to go finish up my History term essay, and start my Philosophy term essay - the History one's due in 8 hours

Been looking for a new PS for about 2 hrs now.....I still can't find one. The enermax units are swaying me towards them as their +12v rail is rated at 26Amps for their 365watt variant. I have the most experience with Enermax and my 4 year old 431watt is still chugging along. But it is an old model PS and my +12v rail is only rated at 15amps. I've noticed recently all my rails are 10% lower than where they should be so it is perhaps time to get a new one. Any suggestions?

Antec has always been a big player in the PSU field... kinda pricey... but hey you get what you pay for... I spent $45 on a 500W AIB that only had a 11.4V 12V rail under full load... my $85 Antec 480 True power gives me a constant 11.93V+ 12V under full load...

BaoPee:

you ABSOLUTELY want a fortron unit. Their ~$35 350watters are the ****znit. Freakin tanks they are. They have internal pots too, so you can always be on spec even under massive overclocks. Not to mention mine is the best looking PSU I have ever seen. No joke. Aurora 350watt I think it is called. Nickel plated with a blue 120mm fan with adjustable speed. Sure beats those bright green multi-fanned windowed horrors. and for $40 months ago - I think it is less now. The fan will be right over your cpu too, and if you air cool, or even watercool, actually lowers your cpu and case temps in the bargain.

The Antecs are a close second to fortron (and sparkle which is really a fortron as well) but they are a bit pricer. If I were to get one free with an Antec case I would keep it happily, otherwise

Fortron 4 life babeee

as you can see I am opinionated when it comes to hardware, but i am not talking out of my arse here. I have a negligable life and actually do know this stuff pretty good.

Thank for your reply Chill, I will keep Antec truepower in my options.

However, I'm still caught up with the Enermaxes. I've now read more into them and quite frankly..i'm even more confused as before. Their latest line of PS offers seperate +12v rails. For their 365watt, the 12v1 is 14amps and their 12v2 is 13amps. Sounds good.

Now my question is, their older model with a single +12v rail is rated at 26amps. So which one is better? Dual +12v rails at 14/13 amps per rail or a single +12v rail at 26amps? Logic would dictate the dual +12v rail is better as the +12v rail isn't shared. Taiwanese manufacturers confuse me with their crazy model numbers and quirky marketing terms.

Fudge...12.41 under load!? Is that "overclocked" PWS or what? J/K. I've known Fortron to be a solid brand as well. However, my Lian-Li case doesn't allow me to use a single FAN PWS that sucks air from the CPU area (lian-li server cases have a housing that enshrouds the entire PS and I'm not willing to drill or cut). Nothing is perfect, just depends on how willing I am to work with it.

meh... to each his own... I would never dream of using a 350W in any of my computers... Fortrons are good PSU's as far as I can tell... but why do you want to overvolt?

BTW I have plenty of screwdrivers... no need to buy one...

felinusz,
UNhooked and I over at AMDMB.COM forums have put together a similar thread to this, with a list of all reported clocks/steppings/voltages/cooling/etc on the first post of the thread.

Jus letting ya know because I got the idea from here... didn't want you to think I was stealing your idea and claiming it as mine.

The thread is here:Amdmb.com Forums > Hardware (Non-Motherboard) > Processor Discussion > Post your Mobile 2500/2400

Feel free to take any results from there and add them to your database!

Peace
Rabbi

I've been using Fortron 550W for a year now....
It never even got warm...it's so powerfull....and quiet....
the 5V rail NEVER flactuates but stays at 5.01V STABLE...i even stopped monitoring it, no matter how hard i OC.....
I'm very happy..best $75 i ever spent...

Hydr0 Styles,
Can you post a memory benchmark (perhaps with a PIV C Northwood and a regular 3200+)? I'm dying to know how your chip with the 500 Mhz FSB fares.
