I was looking for screenshots of different linux window managers and found this w.s. called "desktoplinuxathome.com" and all I got on their page was advertizements for "xwinner.com".

I have never seen this kind of spam...don't know how to take a screenshot in linux or I would post what it looks like. Suffice it to say that every image placeholder (on the site) just shows the same add. No pic's just spam.

Is this something new or is it something I need to do on my end (security wise),
or is this just a bad website to be avoided?

I think I will look at it with my windows box and see if there is a difference.

Thanks for looking, and any suggestions will be apreciated,
Doc

Looks like the website that they use for image hosting is doing that. It could be that the image hosting site got hacked, or something. I definitely wouldn't trust downloading any files from that site, or xwinner.com until it's cleaned up.
