Hey guys

I'm currently trying to set up an FTP-server but it's not going as well as I thought lol. The problem is people can't connect to my external IP and I simply cannot figure out why.

I am using a Dynamic IP address, LevelOne FBR-1418TX Router and BulletProof FTP server 2.30.

I believe the problem is the router; I can't seem to get it to let people access my computer for some reason. I've read the manual for the router: http://www.level1.tw/level1/manual/FBR-1418TX(EN).PDF and followed the instructions there. I made the virtual server, added my IP for my computer and set the port to 21, but when I type: ftp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (the IP provided by my ISP) the browser/ftp prg cannot connect, and I don’t know why.

If I remove the router and just use my external IP address it works fine and people have no problem connecting.

Any help is much appreciated

I have run a FTP from inside my network before so I may be able to help

in order for people to see my FTP server from outside my network I had to login to my router and enable DMZ for the internal IP of the host pc

DMZ is the closest thing to pluging your computer directly into your modem that you can do through a router

once you have DMZ set up for the internal IP of your host computer and people still can non connect to your FTP server then I think it could may be bad router firmware or maybe you have the software set up incorrectly

It worked, but now I have another problem lol:

I figured it out, needed to activate passive mode IP in BPFTP and type the fixed IP, it works now :D Thanks for your help Nova :)

You could have also applied port forwarding on your router. Forward port 21 (I think is FTP) to your PC local IP address and it should also work. That's how I have mine set up at home. I also have a dynamic IP address so I use NoIP software. Works like a charm.
