I just downloaded VMware 3.0 (demo), and it just works very, VERRRRRRRRRY slow. is it normal on a K6-2 ? what speed should I expect ?

Probably so. You're basically running two OSes, the VMWare software and whatever other software the VMWare is running with one, relatively weak, system.
VMWare is extremely system dependant.
