DX 7,8, or 9?

hey all... i got one more question, and i think it goes in a new thread...

direct x 7,8, or 9 for Geforce256 on XP pro?
i dont know if 7 can run on xp or not.... and i dont know if the geforce is "compatible" with new drivers like DX 8/9.

In order to play certain games (i.e. Halo) DX9 must be installed. Otherwise, if you don't play any of these games, there's no need to update.

Install DX9 and the latest drivers and it should be fine.

I think XP comes with 8 installed. Whatever it is, just use whats preinstalled, and update it if a game you want to play requires it.

sorry, i forgot to mention my son's rig,
AMD "Thunderbird" 700MHz @ 900 (9.0x100)
geforce256 SDR
384MB PC100 @ 150Mhz
CPU cooling with "Volcano 9" HS/Fan
and i zip-tied the old hs/fan to the video card...

he only needs it for like quake3, UT, and UT2k3.... but we've been having some trouble with ut2k3......
