Which Card To Go With?

I've been out of upgrading business for a while, so I'm out of touch with the latest cards. Im going to build a new pc, but have no clue where to start. Would like to play games at 2560x1600 with Max detail, so looking for high end card..

which are the best for me to consider?

Nvidia: GTX 480
ATI: 5870

If you want the fastest card to get, get a Radeon HD 5970. But make sure it will fit.
