this is news? :)

IE sucks, and still sucks. they keep adding feature wise, but in the core, its still good old ie6 ;) (i have no proof of this, but i wouldn't be surprised if it was the truth)

I have to say.. Im trying to use my wifes old lappy, with firefox, and its crashed twice in the last half hour. Opera hangs, and google chrome uses too much RAM and takes forever to load. IE is the only thing thats consistent.
Ive tried FF2 and 3, and both crash. IE may have more back doors than an Italian restaurant, but with AVG and a few choice spyware progs. I've never had any issues.

You must have a "built for IE only" laptop.

I stopped using IE about 5-6 yrs ago, FF has been my browser of choice ever since.

so many people hate IE, yet i use it everyday and dont see why people hate it so much really, i think many people hate it cause it is made by MS.....

IE does what i need it to just as good as firefox does...i dont use all those plug-ins and other things either...

i havent had any viruses, or exploits happen to me, i run spybot once ni a blue moon and it comes out clean. i visit many "questionable to some" web sites..

I think it's because people are afraid to touch the hosts file to block ad related/serving sites.... get a good hosts file setup for adblocking (like mike's hosts file... do a google on it)... and IE is much better off.

Personally I think IE7 is a big pile of steaming dung. I didn't ask for MS to use the shotgun approach to placing all the navigation buttons and stuff and don't appreciate that they left me no way to revert the navigation buttons and menu's back to a more conventional layout. That's why the only reason I ever open that browser up at all is to update Windows. Everything else is done with either FF or Opera. And this (to me) is just another reason to stay away from using it.

I won't go as far as stating it's the worst browser out there, but I also don't endorse it's use to my friends and family either. I recommend FF generally as it tends to be more secure (no active x crap).

IE works fine for me and if your company is managing security through AD then IE is the best way to go.

From the original link... "So far most of the attacks have been geographically centered on China and have been used for the purposes of stealing computer game passwords". Exploiting IE to steal World of Warcraft login information heh.

Look at the amount of exploits IE has as compared to FF/Opera/etc., the fact of the matter is that IE has a stranglehold on the browser market and there's tons of uneducated users out there so that makes IE an easy target, especially when there's so many holes in it's security.

I don't think functionality is the issue in most cases, it's the security.

Run IE as a separate application and it would probably be fine. Of course by that time MS would have hijacked so much code from FF that it might as well be called MSFF.

IMO the biggest security hole for IE is that it is tied into the OS to such a high degree. FF is separated enough that you can probably pull it as an installed application and run it on another OS without even installing it. Just copy the profile folder, edit the .ini and run the engine. I haven't tried it, but I bet it would work. There are a few reg entries, but it is very minimal and just basic stuff like pathtoexe and installdirectory. That's half of its security right there.

the only time that i use IE is at work because there are many internal web sites that require the use of it. any other time i use firefox... i wish that microsoft would just give up IE and just start loading some sort of mozilla based product by default. i honestly can't see how they could make money off of IE...

One of the major problems is that IE is prone to attacks. It's a large percentage of the market share, so people are making those nasties for it.

One thing I tell customers at my work is to pay attention to where you are going and what you are doing online. If you go to porn sites, expect to get hit with stupid crap. If you are just going to normal forums, email, and other items like that, there is nothing to worry about. It's all about user control, and if the user gets into a bad spot, it's not the browsers fault.

I use FF for each of my computers, and I do pop IE up every so often, and it's not problematic for me, but I just stay away from the no-no sites lol.

I disagree, and that is because sites that users ALWAYS go to, like espn, nfl etc used to be loaded with spyware to the hilt. I have no idea now, I don't follow sports so it doesn't mean **** to me haha.

I had one guy that spent all day at espn and cnn, and ended up with an infection so bad that I had to format the drive. It was easier and faster to do that than try to clean the OS and bring the system back to a workable state. He was just dumb enough to click ok for a few things that popped up too, which inevitably occurred when adware kept flooding in.

In fact, I just tried to clean an OS a week ago, and they called and said it was back. Instant BSOD on boot. Rootkit and various other malware. Damn that system restore. I forgot to kill that before I left. All IE machines, and the client's policy includes no FF. Morons....

I was a die-hard Netscape devotee and have been on the FF bandwagon since it was beta. Especially with all the plug-ins and extensions I use I could never switch to IE. Can't imagine wanting to.

I'm there with ya. FF since beta. Love it.

It is a great idea to use something other than IE, but most of the time, people lie when they say "all I go to are cnn, espn" etc. Those sites aren't loaded with crap. Most of the time, they went to another site that had that junk on it, and it just seems/feels like the other sites cause the problem. I see it everyday at where I work, and I've never had an issue doing those things on my own.
