I remember some stores selling ddr ram for cheap not to long ago, but it seems like they're increasing the prices for them 2-10 bucks at a time. Whats going on??!?! DDR2 seems to be cheaper than ddr1 even.

reason i ask is because i want to get more ram, but want to get it at the right time, and it seems like that time has passed up. If prices are just going to continue increasing, i'm gonna buy right now.

It's hard to find, too, you won't be able to pick your favorite brand/model because it probably won't be in stock! I'd recommend upgrading sooner rather than later otherwise all the 2 gig kits will be out of stock...

is it because of high demand? lack of manufacturing? both?
i want to get it now, its just its increased so much as it is, that it might just be better to upgrade to something that supports DDR2 :-S
i was hoping it would decrease..

Probably lack of manufacturing since both AMD and Intel are both on DDR2 now. I'd look in to picking up some used DDR1 if I were you.

i've been looking on ebay... idiots keep driving the prices over retail!!
and i barely see any for sale in the classifieds.. :(

Yeah, I know what you mean. I spent a little over two hundred freakin' bucks for my used OCZ PC4000 5-5-5-15 2GB set on eBay. And they're just going higher. I figure this, plus a pair of 8600GTS in April should hold me off until I do a full platform upgrade sometime in Q3.

they seem to be going up fast..so get in quick if u want to buy any...i bought some 1Gb DDR400 off ebay about 6 months ago and due to an upgrade i had to sell it last week and i made £8 profit on it!!!

DDR prices will stablize after while.

Like when DDR came out. PC1333 shot up after a bit as most of the popultion switched over. Then it flattened out and you can get PC100/133 at reasonable prices, but you have to really look for good modules.

see.. its funny you should say prices are high, cause i found a number of decent 2gb kits on newegg for around $150. Honestly, id kill to be able to get memory for that price here in canada ha ha. the 2gb kit i baught was like $300CDN =\.
I kind of just jumped yesterday on the mushkins, im now reading that they are a new type of chip being used so i might not get much overclock at all =\ kinda sucks cause i could have saved my $75 and gone with the ocz but oh well.
if you are always waiting, you will never buy anything. the only other option is to switch platforms and get the cheaper ddr2 heh. this is something i almost did, but its a hastle trying to find buyers for the gear in a hurry heh.
there are some nice 2gb kits on the classifieds for about $150 if your willing to deal without paypal protection =)

We haven't seen an increase in price on it at the shop yet, seems pretty stable at the distributers ( at the moment )

DDR2 on the otherhand, keeps going down almost twice a week now. Pretty scary.

DDR1 I think is already near the peak, production has ramped to DDR2 so supplies are thin, or at least percieved to be thin in DDR1, but as it fades out as a "standard" it will drop like a rock. As was said above, same thing happens every time ram changes, of course if you want ddr1 5 years from now the price will probably be back high because spares will be hard to come by. Same thing happened with FP/EDO/SDRAM etc

Perhaps the higher ram requirements of Vista could be contributing to it, manufacturers see this and figure the demand for more ram will increase as well:rolleyes:

I'm also looking to upgrade to a 2GB set off DDR. I've seen a couple cheaper sets on Newegg. Has anyone seen decent results with any of the following?

A-Data PC3200:

G.Skill PC3200:

G.Skill PC3200 (CAS 2) A little more:

Patriot PC3200 (CAS 2) $35 Rebate:

I'm kind of hesitant to jump on a cheaper 2GB set because the memory I have now (2 X 512MB Crucial Ballistix PC3200) overclocks very well. I also have to deal with the lower multiplier of the X2 3800+.

as most said, its lack of manufacturing, its no different than the scenario of SD > DD the market went through be4.

I used the 512MB version of the Patriots and they were awesome. I'm 99% sure the 1GBs use different chips though, so...

I have the same question as downer....

My current 2x512 oc to 296mhz, 2.5-4-4-8......I want to go to 2x1gb, but I want at LEAST pc4000....but I can't really find any :(

Any rec's on what to buy/where to find!!??!

If you want something good the classies here are about as good as any, there isn't a whole lot of high performance ddr1 left at the retailers. I picked up a pair of freshly RMA'd PC4000 OCZ sticks on here, and I've seen some smokin deals on used stuff pass through.

I havn't been watching high end DDR, but the price of value DDR ram has been stable for the past few months. The price hikes were experienced during late 2006, it's been nothing but small price drops during 2007.

A good example is this cosair value DDR kit; 75usd for the past 2 months: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145440 . They recently moved to high density chips though.

DDR2 experienced prices hikes during late 2006, but has been falling since jan 07.
