File Sharing Problem in Win2K

Alright, I upgraded all my systems to win2k finally. Now my problem is I don't know how to set up file sharing between all my systems on my network. It was really simple with win98, but it seems to be much more complicated with win2k. How do set up my machienes so I can fully access all of my drives from one machiene?

It helps if you have similar accounts on both machines (i.e. same username/password) so that you don't have to put in your credentials every time you need to access files.

First thing is you need to setup shares for what you want to make available. It's not much unlike Win98 it just has more security options (if you're using NTFS, that is).

If you created an account other than the administrators account for primary use then you will need to create that account on the other PCs as well so that they know to allow that account for access.

I'll tell you how I set mine up to give you an idea.

I have 7 PCs. 1 PC is my file server. I log onto every PC with a renamed Administrators account. This allows me to access files from any PC to any other PC (with available shares) without having to put in my username/password. I also do not have to go to every PC and create that account since the Administrators account is on them all by default (and renamed on each PC as well after I installed the OS).

All I had to do then was share the drive on my fileserver that I wanted to permit access for and voila! I was done. All PCs have admin access to my file server drive. You can create more shares on any of the other PCs as well and they will all show up in Network Neighborhood unless you choose to map a network drive to the resources in which case they will show up under My Computer.

Hope this doesn't confuse you anymore than you already were. It's actually a much simpler process than what it may sound like.

Fell free to ask any other questions you may have regarding this setup.
