The G100 (or what NV actually calls it's next gen GPU) will be roughly 30-40% faster that the current
top end at release (still the Ultra). That is the standard formula for both ATI and NV. OC'ing can widen
that delta. NV's next gen release timing will be driven by what ATI does and I doubt you will see it
before the middle to end of Q2 in 2008. If ATI looks like it can get a card into the ball game with a card
that can challenge NV earlier then the release will move up.

The 9800GX2 (2X G92's PCB's) is not next gen. It is a faster replacement for the now out of production
Ultra. It is a gap filler at the high end before the true next gens are released and to compete with ATI's
up coming dual GPU cards....snip...

Hey Viper you are in the know so... 2 questions..

Are the new 8800 and soon 9800 series dx10.1 compliant (if that matters)

And more importantly are they still using Coverage Sampling Antialiasing? (Which explains why ATI still has the detail advantage)

The 8800's, in either G80 or G92 flavors, are not DX10.1 compliant. I am pretty sure the 9800GX2
will not be either since they are essentially two G92 cards "glued" together.

DX10.1 is a moot point now and will be for at least another 2-3 years. A gamer maker that doesn't
want to commit marketing/sales suicide will code the game to fall back to Dx10.0 if a 10.1 card isn't
detected. They will certainly also be able to run w/DX9 as well considering Vista's slow uptake and as
you can see with Crysis you can have most Dx10 type effects with a Dx9 cards in XP.

ATI lost the IQ crown (card speed was lost when the 7800's popped) to NV's 8800's with the release
of the 2900XT's. That is both with and without AA applied.

Accelero S1 insalled, I just benched 3dmark06 at 802/1998/1103. Haven't tested it strenuously but 3dmark06 was a breeze. So close to breaking to 16K. I think I can do it without resorting to OCing my q6600 any further.

edit: Arrrrgh! 2 points from breaking 16K. I'm done benching for tonight. Can't OC the core or shaders anymore than this without 3dmark crashing. Not sure yet how much higher the mem will clock. Currently at 810/1998/1107

Thought I'd chime in, give some of you GTS owners a GT bench to compare to

evga 8800GT vanilla @724/1810/999 (still not done OCing)

3dmark 06 ~12000 in Vista 64

Are you in VISTA or something? I'm breaking 16k easily at lower clocks on both my card and my quad. Only thing higher on my end is the FSB.

yeah, vista64 and totally untweaked for 3dmark or any benchamrks for that matter... my OS is getting bloated

this is a usless comparison withou OS and cpu type and speed, I am guessing a 3.2 conroe.

I didnt get any games, but did get the OC version directly from the BFG store for $299. :)

That's a good deal, it's now $350 at the BFG store  The upgrader in me wants one of these (over my current 8800GT ) but the practical side of me says 'look at how much you game - not much now' :( Prolly should have gotten one of those PNYs from Frys  because of that deal I almost refuse to buy one for over $300 :p

are there any good guides on how to oc these?

the rivia tuner I had for my 7900GTO dosen't know the drivers, do i need to get a new version?
