Intel's new Sandy Bridge 2600K at 4.9 GHz on a Corsair H50 did p6058 in 2:04, 31,000+ ppd. That's 33% faster than an i7 @ 3.8 GHz and nearly 72% more ppd. Extrapolating to -bigadv, it's going to make frames on p2686 of about 23:00 for ~56,000 ppd. Scale it up to 6 cores and put two of them on a SR-2 class motherboard and you could expect 8:00/frame, ~272,000 ppd.
 
And this is supposed to be a mainstream platform? Is there going to be a new high end socket soon? Do 1155 processors fit in 1156?
 
New socket. The i7 2600K is a mainstream desktop product, priced at $317. AC is going to cr*p when he see's how high intel has raised the bar!
 
I suppose I should provide a link to the article and note that 4.9 GHz was attained at a higher vcore than I would consider for long term 24/7 use. It looks like 4.6 to 4.7 GHz would be fine on the stock cooler though. 4.7 GHz was reached at 1.375 v and it ran 4.5 at stock voltage. It was an engineering sample being reviewed, so the real world ones may not be as fast.
 
I guess we'll wait and see until they are out and people here start buying them. And I just bought i7 parts, drat. Oh well. At least least I'll be pushing out a lot more PPD soon even though there is a new tech that can potentially push out a lot more...
 
At $317 for an i7 2600K, and you have to get the K series if you want to OC, it couldn't be that much more expensive. An i7 950 is $294 on the egg.

They are a lot less at Microcenter. $229 currently. I have go google these(Sandy B), why do they oc so well?
 
I figure the SB is just over 10% better clock for clock. It's hard to compare because of the way turbo boost works.

$90 on the processor and probably as much more for the latest motherboard to run it on, would mean spending $180 more to go with the 2600 K and make 20,000 more ppd. You save back on the cpu cooler, because the K series ships with a pretty good heatpipe cooler.
 
They way they clock is insane. Is that 4.9ghz on the stock intel cooler?

Well. Not to be crude, but if the way midrange stuff is giveing people hardons likethis, Im almost afraid to walk around when Intels next gen highend comes out, everyones going to be walking around like they just popped a viagra and have that enzite guys smile plastered on their face's :comp:
 
Thats sad... at 4.9Ghz with bigadv, the sandy is producing more than I am in total, with 2 CPU's and 4 GPU's... :cry:
 
4.9 GHz was all it would do using a Corsair H50. It might be all it would do using anything.
 
That is absolutely INSANE!!! :drool: Makes me wish I hadn't just purchased another i7 1366. :( I guess if I'm going to stick with it then I need to keep an eye on the hardware rumor boards like I used to b/c I had NO idea this was coming.

I was hoping we would get cheaper 6-core 1366 cpus... with SB here now the demand won't be there and it'll likely end up the 6-cores will stay more expensive or just disappear. :(
 
I expect the early adopters will pay a dear premium for a 2600K. Newegg still has the i7 970 at $900. How would you feel if you plopped down the money to buy one of those and then read about the 2600K and saw the retail price is going to be $317.

I'm fairly certain there are 6 and perhaps 8 core SB chips in the roadmap. Intel's goal is to bulldoze Bulldozer after all. But Harlam may be right, why produce a 6 core 1st generation (1366) i7 when the 4 core 2nd generation is as fast?
