audigy 2 speaker selections not working

so in the creative control panel, i cant force my audigy2 to have only stereo output. i have only headphones connected to the card and for some reason the only choice i can make is "4/4.1 speakers". i can set it to stereo through the windows speaker settings, but upon reboot itll change back to quadraphonic due to the creative speaker settings being stuck to 4 speakers.

anyone know how i can fix this?

So here we are 8 years later... I'm having the same problem (using win xp64). Did you happen to find a fix, way back then?
