Yea they do need a little updating :)

I claim above black.

1 Extensive tweaking a 386 in dos (Cut my teeth on a 286 & cyrix pretending to be a 386)
1 486 sx, 486 dx & dx2
1 Pentium mmx
1 Pentium Pro
1 Intel PII, both the riser card with on board ram & the later in chip kind.
1 Intel PIII <- Almost got my first 1000 mhz :)
1 AMD Athlon slot A, <- got it, though not to hard
2 AMD Duron, Thunderbird, Barton and a XP. <- Crushed, liquid cooled & phase changed em.
1 North Bridge cooling mods, water, air & just a better TIM.
1 Video GPU & ram cooling mods, water, air & just a better TIM.
1 Voltage reg, plenty cooling by air.
1 Home brew water block
1 Home brew phase change units
1 Both pin mods & wire tricking (if that’s a small wire attaching the pins of a Athlon CPU...)
1 Lapping a cpu, Just after they started closing em in a

Also plenty of Core 2 duo / quad & Prescot's.

So a total of 16 points not counting anything more modern.

Some proof:

Cyrix 333Mhz @ 400Mhz
Cyrix 566Mhz @ 850Mhz (there might of been a 533Mhz can't remember)
Dual PII Xeon chips (These where OC'ed but don't remember to what extent, it wasn't much, maybe 50Mhz)
Old AMD Athlon, Thunderbird I think, was just a few 100Mhz OC.
P4 1.6Ghz to ~2.4Ghz? Can't Remember
P4 2.4Ghz to ?? Unsure. Was a B or C rev if not mistaken hyperthreading
XP 2600+ to ?? Minor OC once again, was mostly a backup computer for goofing around and for friends to play games on with me
X2 3800+ to ~2.4Ghz
Opty 170 to 2.5-2.6Ghz
Multiple E6400's and E6600's from 3.2Ghz to 3.76Ghz
E8400 up to 4.3Ghz
Current i7 920 up to 4.0Ghz

Other Mods...
Bios mod for 8800GT (increased speed and voltage)
Bios mod for X800Pro to XT
Voltage mod X800Pro
NB Cooling mods (new heatsinks to active cooling)
PWM Active cooling + new heatsinks motherboard.
Custom portable Watercooling setup in a Antec Lanparty Case (which was amazing in itself that it fit with all the crap I had in there)
Custom modificatiosn to current Antec P180 case for fully concealed water cooling setup (all internal 3x 120 Rad on inside top), Cut holes over GPU area for 2x 120mm fans for extra cooling.
Lapped E6600 and E6400's
Removed IHS from Opty 170

Out of all that who knows what all counts ;) Im special so thats all that counts.

After all these years, Ive managed a red belt :)

I suck tho, Im too much of a wuss for voltmods

I was a lurker/closet overclocker for about 8 months before I joined here, so in all reality, I havent been ocing for very long, just long enough to remember when it was really kind of a black art, and you were scum if you did

the only real difference between now and then is ease of use, quality, and instead of overclocking gains of a few mhz, under the right conditions we are looking of a few ghz over stock, wich i think is mighty impressive. considering on an air cooled rig, you are almost guarenteed an overclock of between 1000mhz-1600mhz (on intel ;) )

Maybe 1 day I'll make it to the ranks of black.. It really all depends on how much I want to spend lol :D

let's see.

graphic cards:

GeForce mx440, but i don't really remember if that was the first one i started overclocking on. let's say 1 point because i am pretty sure i did.

Geforce 6600gt, i did overclock this little thing here, although i do not remember how much =) but something like 50Mhz.

GeForce 7800Gtx, 100Mhz here, that card was getting really hot (100 C)

GeForce 8800 Ultra, 50 Mhz approx, this wouldn't go higher, and i didn't want to volt mod it.

GeForce GTX260-216sp 180Mhz on core and 250 on shaders + 250 on memory. overvolted also =)

so far 4 points

now to the CPUs

A pentium 4 HT 3.2 ghz overclocked to 4.5ghz and used to warm house. ghgh

my fathers pentium 4 overclocked from 2.4 to 3.0 ghz (also used to warm his office)

A C2D E8600 (i think that was the code) overclocked to 4.0ghz

and the i7 920 C0 overclocked to 4.2ghz

so that's 8 points total (and i am not counting all the overclocks i did on my friends pcs)

I AM A MIGHTY RED BELT! rawr

cheers

1 - Case cooling mod: Blowhole
2 - AMD 64 bit overclock: Opteron 175 @ 2.8
3 - Intel 64 bit overclock: Q6600 @ 3.7 GHz
4 - Dually Overclock: Two PIIIs to 833 MHz on an Asus board (Also PIII Class)
5 - Intel PII: Intel Celeron 366 @ 458 on a baby AT board
6 - AMD Duron: Slight OC on a board without many options
7 - AMD Athlon XP: Small OC in a limited BIOS
8 - Northbridge cooling mod: Adding a fan, or new heatsink on various boards
9 - Video card cooling mod: Removing the shroud on my 8800GT and adding a couple fans for better temps
10 - Voltage reg cooling mod: Cut up an old PII pin heatsink to use on vRMs/mosfets
11 - Homebrew waterblock: Made several
12 - Pin mods: Athlon MP SMP oc'd to 2600s with pin mods (Also Athlon XP Class)

I think I got my old Pentium running a bit faster at one point too but since I can't remember the specifics I won't post it, that and other older tech. If anyone's wondering where I got the AMD/Intel 64 bit or SMP classes, it's from this post: http://www.ocforums.com/showpost.php?p=2197893&postcount=13 . Now I'm wondering if I can count my chillers as home brew phase change. Since evaporative water cooling was counted in, chillers should be too I'd think. The newer CPU classes should be added in, when this thread was made it had the current CPUs included so this was never meant to be a retro thread.

Decided to go back and add up what there was from previously.
http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6170255&postcount=281

I added a few things that I remembered and added up the tally.

Uber-Necro!

I love this concept and think this new gen should breath some life into her.

What do you say team?

It would probably be a good idea since most current benchers may have never even seen a Barton. LOL

I remember doing this back in '08 and I was a red belt. I've probably only added a couple points since then, so I'm most likely still a red belt.

There might be a few younger overclockers who might say "don't you mean pad-mod?" lol :)

I'd be a Brown belt with 7 pts. If we were to add PhII, FX, and the most recent Intel's I'd be at 10 for red belt. But I've noticed others in the thread have been counting case mods too. If that were the case then I'd definitely hit black.

Alright guys, going to go ahead and do this one. Here's the updated points/belts!

Ok I've got some math to due. Question, does fixing cpu pins count for pin mod?
