I tried the EVE trial, got terribly bored, so I uninstalled it. The next day I decided to give it another shot. I left ventrilo so that my friends couldn't bug me and /really/ payed attention to the entire tutorial, often experimenting throughout the tutorial. My first impression of the game was that it was too overwhelming and complicated, especially coming from WoW, but the game is seriously amazing. It really is a sandbox MMO, and I can't wait to join the OCF corp! Hopefully you guys have a vent that I can get on because I'm fuuuuuuuuuuuull of questions that the rookie help channel doesn't want to answer :D

See ya soon! pew pew pew pew lasers!

See? thats all most people need to really start enjoying eve. If they actually TRULY give it a chance and pay attention to the tutorial then they will find the charm in the game. It's so amazingly huge and there is so much to do i don't think you can ever get bored lol

There are different paying plans. You can pay it all upfront and save some money, or you can pay quarterly and save some money, or you can pay every half-year and save some money. The most expensive, yet most convinient one is the 14.95 a month that I chose.

Its a sweet game, I'm really enjoying it.

After roughly 2 months or so I'm finally in a decent corp based in 0.2 space, moving into 0 soon for constant PvP and serious industry/production. It gets better as you progress through the game and learn more :).

This game is entirely unlike every other MMORPG out there, in a good way. The PvP is intense too, which IMO is the main purpose of any MMO.

i will give it some thought, I never liked the idea of having to pay for the game and and then on top of that have to pay monthly for it.

Although, When startrek online comes out i will pay whatever they want for it.

Eve is a free download, no one time fee, just monthly. Get the 14 day trial and see if you like it. I myself was heavily against paying monthly for games as well..untill i played eve.

Man I dunno I must love to hate this game I guess. I was just thinking of trying this game yet again for the third time. I love space/spaceships, and wanted to play a sci-fi mmo instead of these hack n' slash types. I remember all the problems I encounter when I try to play though which makes me think twice before resubbing.

The biggest issues for me? The agent missions absolutely suck. Talk about repetitive missions. I swear doing more than 5 missions makes me want to gouge my eyes out with a spoon. I thought getting higher lvl missions would be more fun, but after reaching lvl 2 agents I found they suck even more. I haven't tryed to kill pirates in .4 yet, but really how many hours can you do that? No I'm not into fighting rocks and going afk until i'm done.

What is with the pvp in this game? No I'm not being a carebear (even though I thought carebears were cool when I was a kid, thundercats own them though), but god d4mn whats the deal with losing your entire ship and all modules? So lemme see here, I go out in space, it takes me a few hours to get my ship equipped and payed for only to get it ganked as soon as I zone into a .4 or lower zone. Mmmm fun! Oh! but you can get your insurance money which only covers the cost of the ship weeee! That's cool I can re-buy all the garbage guns and crap which are scattered all over the universe taking several more hours before I can go out in space again.

Last rant I swear... This leads to the fact that no one that I saw (and I'm a total newb at this game with almost no money) would pvp with a nice ship. I mean I talked to people with navy issue ships (which ofcourse re-use the same ship model as the crap version) and ask how it must be cool to pvp with them. They're like " ZOMG! I would never pvp with that ship! No no you pvp with a crap tech 2 frigate." Wow awesome to know that you can work towards a ship and find out that you shouldn't pvp in it.

Ok i'm done. After alllll this I'm still thinking of trying it again because I'm a sucker when it comes to space games. I know I'll be let down again, but oh well lol.

Let me adress your issues...:

True, they get repetitive after awhile. But the trick is to find a good lvl 3 or 4 agent, preferably two and with good quality so you get the very best missions and payments. That way you can also cherrypick the nicest missions (you can decline them every once in awhile if you dont like the offer!)

I haven't tryed to kill pirates in .4 yet, but really how many hours can you do that?

Same as with missions..if you stick to the standard, it will get boring. If you learn how to use the scanner and tactical positioning, it becomes awhole lot more fun cause you get to pick which ones you fight, learn to avoid player pirates around and most importantly, do so in the least possible amount of time.

What is with the pvp in this game?

In short, it's some of the best PVP you will find in all MMO's.

but god d4mn whats the deal with losing your entire ship and all modules? So lemme see here, I go out in space, it takes me a few hours to get my ship equipped and payed for only to get it ganked as soon as I zone into a .4 or lower zone.

Long answer, don't do it alone, find a few friends and form a gang, use cheapo ships and modules (dont undock what you cant afford to lose!) insure them, have a clone updated (even tho, with the right tricks youll never ever get podded again). Locate a target using the scanner (someone ratting, mining, some other gang), use the right tactics and BAM...you can start the looting. With small gangs, 3 - 5ppl, its all about organisation and its awhole lot of fun. We used to go out piratting in 5 T1 cruisers and we've killed multiple battleships, battlecruisers and even a T2 cruiser (HAC). One time we went up against a gang of three battlecruisers and came out on top, simple because we use teamspeak and communicate alot. Also, always have multiple ships ready and fitted in case a war breaks out or you meet multiple hostiles and don't have time to buy and refit.

They're like " ZOMG! I would never pvp with that ship! No no you pvp with a crap tech 2 frigate."

Well yeah, if you're alone i wouldnt take that CNR (Caldari Navy Raven - 1bil ship) out to pirate, but in a gang, they can shine. Especialy interceptors, Fleet command ships and HACs all fill specialised roles, and with the proper organisation they can be so much more then just the sum of the parts. However, its also great fun in, as we did, take cheapo ships and use tactics to beat even the more expensive and experienced ships and players.

Thanks for the reply/info Sjaak. I dunno man after reading the answers I better just wait for Star Trek Online or something. Which is lame because Eve does have a "cool" factor to it which always drives me to retry it. I just don't want to wait for lvl 3 missions to start having fun and you're just talking about big payout's nothing really fun happening during the mission (just blow up crap at X,Y,Z). You can't always find a gang to go with you to .4 zones. I have seen it in game there are 2-4 ships just hovering 100km out from the gate sniping ships insta-killing them as soon as they gate in.

This is what kills the game for me right here "(dont undock what you cant afford to lose!) " It took me a long, very long time to equip my cruiser and I WANT to play the game using it. If I get my new Raven I know for a fact I would undock and use it. Why? Because I just built the the damn thing and I want to have fun with it. I'm not talking about pirating people, but I am talking about entering lower zones and having fun with my new ship blowing up npc's. I sound like a carebear here (sorry), but to get insta killed in a few shots (which happens) from somone 100km away kinda blows. If there was a way to get your ship back and buy ordinance for it quickly instead of the hours it takes to get it re-equip'd I'm sure it would be more fun.

Thats definetly possible..as long as you take certain precautions..have warp stabs mounted, instajumps and an instadock ready...check local regularly..etc.
