Motherboard beeps! Is it dead or not?????

Hi,

one of my freinds has a problem with his computer. It won't start anymore, it just beeps. He thought it's the mobo, but I think if it beeps, it can't be dead. My opinion is, that something else for example the ram is dead(or just loose) and the mobo shows it by its beepcodes. Am I right or not??????? What do you think about it???

Can you discribe the beeps and tell us what kind of BIOS does he have?

I don't know it, becuase as I said, it's not my mobo. I only wanted to know it in generally. Can a motherboard be dead although you hear beep codes?????????

First thing I'd shoot for is Ram, but even before that he can check if everything's seated properly and all of the connectors are ok.

I second that it's the RAM. Try re-seating it or moving it into another slot

OK thank you! I could solve the problem. As I first thought and as you mentioned, it was the ram. It just died, perhaps cuased by overheating, I dunno. I bought him another stick of ram and know it works fine again.
