Sleeving and Heatshrink

So I'm bored and looking for things to play with in my comp and feel like resleeving EVERYTHING, I want all individual wires sleeved with 1/8" sleeving. I am planning on using Techflex Ogre sleeving.

Now main main reason for posting is that I need suggestions as far as heatshrink goes. In the past I have bought 1/8" heatshrink assuming that it was for 1/8" sleeving, and it was just an absolute pain in the ass to get over the sleeving and in the end I just scrapped it and did a nice job without using any heatshrink at all. The job looks great at the connector side of the wiring, however, as the only non-modular part of my psu is the 24-pin power cable, the sleeving at the psu end looks atrocious.

For this new job, I want to use zip ties to hold the sleeving in place down by the psu, so I'm looking for heatshrink that I can get over the zip tie, that also will shrink down to 1/8". Also I want to use heatshrink (no zip ties) at the connector end of the cables, so I figured this time I'd use some 1/4" heatshrink in hopes that it will shrink down to the 1/8" sleeving.

It looks like Techflex heatshrink will work well as it claims to have a 3-1 shrink ratio.

If you have any suggestions, tips, tricks, or things to expect I would love to hear, cause I want it to go as smoothly as possible this time with as few problems as I can!!

THANKS!!!

You will want heatshrink slightly larger than what you are putting it on. If the sleeving and heatshrink are the same size, it won't really fit. Additionally, if you are putting a ziptie on the end, you will need an even bigger size. Because the number of wires vary and the thickness of each wire can change, I don't have a list of sizes you will need for each cable. Generally though, 3/8" will work for small cables (~4 wires, lower gauge) and 1/2" for larger cables (~6-8 wires, lower gauge); both with zipties.

For sleeving, I use Techflex PET.

You can get narrow striping tape of any color to secure your sleeves instead of using bulky zip ties.

In fact, I use striping tape every 2-3" to tidy up my wires instead of sleeving. It looks OK, and the wires are more flexible and less bulky.

Check out the sata heatshrinks. They are all 3:1. I have used them obviously for other things other than sata cables and they have worked fine. You can either get them pre-cut or in a giant tube which you can just cut to your specified length.

I actually just ended up buying a ton of stuff from Nils over at MDPC, his heatshrink is 4:1 and sleeving is the best around. Its a little expensive but thats the cost of perfection so I'm very excited for it to come.

Thanks again for all the advice!!!
