Help a senior citizen scan in Win 8

My neighbor is 66, she needs help scanning in Windows 8. I've never scanned in Win 8 but she says that the default process is rather complicated. Is there an easy way to scan in Win 8? I'm assuming shell need OCR capability as well.

Maybe a free app or something?

What printer/scanner is she using? I think some have a better interface to the PC than others.

Samsung? It's a Samsung all in one...
I don't remember the name of it.
Just throw me some options and I'll give them a shot.

Options? Go to the manufacturer's website, find the model of the scanner, type it in, download their software, install it, and then use the scanner.
