SATA 3.0 To Be Ready End Of Year

Floppy is still around

That sata upgrade doesn't do much since hd speeds isn't even close to sata 1.0. Maybe once fast SSD will show they will able to take advantage of that interface.
 
Lots of legacy IDE stuff around.

Regular drives cant even go past sata1 let alone sata2.

This new technology will be beneficial with SSD drives going forward though.
 
IDE is SATA :)


but yeah, drives aren't even hitting 3gbps yet, so ...no real advance IMHO.
 
Yah the old tech is PATA... both are IDE :)


Anywho,

I suppose the real gain of this is for large scale server systems. Only need a couple of ports on a motherboard and you can run multiplexed storage arrays through a single cable to the motherboard :) 6x80MB/s STR drives in raid0 all running through a single cable, sweet.
 
Needed for RAM SSDs - they may work as fast as the inernal controller and bus allow to push data. Otherwise not needed yet.
