Hey everyone, I have a couple of questions.

I am wanting to use my own web server for my business that im setting up, my business requires an eCommerce website that will start off slow but should increase fast. What my question is i am wanting to use ssds for my web server these ones exactly: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227772 i am wanting to buy six and raid them together. Can i even raid pcie cards? heres my MB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813182353

I would like these cards because of the speed they provide, Or should i go with 15K sas drives

Thanks In advance

I know you cannot RAID OCZ Revo drives because, standalone, they are already in RAID0. Don't know about the R4 but my guess they were built in the same way as the Revo. My suggestion is get 6 fastest 2.5" SSDs you can find and RAID0 them. They would handily beat the Revos and R4s.

PS Checked the R4 a little bit closer. The CM88 use 8 X SF2281 controllers. This means it is already in RAID0, exactly like the Revos.

Would you take your chances with the server that hosts your companies website?

There's a reason RAID 0 is pretty much never ran in a enterprise environment.

Can't argue with the risks involved when going RAID0 in an enterprise environment. But I do believe some companies do use SSDs for a RAID0 solution. I also noticed that almost all companies that used such a solution only used Intel SSDs.

If RAID0 was that risky wouldn't an OCZ PCI-E SSD be just as risky since it is actually a RAID0 SSD?

Anyway here's an interesting read for OP to ponder on. It specifically deals with RAIDing SSDs in an enterprise environment.

As for me, I have no opinion whether SSD RAID0 in an enterprise environment is feasible or not.

Mentioned above I'd go with 6 Intel or Samsung with an add in hardware RAID card (Areca?) for RAID6 or minumum RAID5 and a battery backup. Putting 6 drives in RAID 0 in a mission critical situation is just asking for trouble.
