What is the difference between a XGA TFT and TFT active-matrix?

I'm going to buy a laptop and this is a question that I do not know the answer to. When looking at them I could not see any real difference. The laptop that I’m looking to buy uses the XGA TFT. I’m not going to use it for play 3D games, it will be mostly used by my wife for school and on road trips to play DVD’s for the kid.
