Why is the minimum multiplier on any LGA775 CPU higher than FSB? I could understand not allowing multiplier on my Q9450 to be lower than 4x (4 x 333 = 1333 = FSB), but why stop at 6x multiplier?

I would imagine that it is a latencies issue, often times you get just as much instability going slow as you do going fast. Below a certain spot the CPUs frequency multiplier bits probably don't work.

My guess is the power and heat reduction isn't worth the performance loss. You could technically run it at 1x, but you'd have to greatly reduce the voltage and I'm sure you'd hit other issues.
