Anyways Im surprised how little PPD the A8 produces in CPU alone when I see things like 2600k doing 100kppd....

Yeah, I only get ~5k PPD out of an A6-3650.
(Nice little machine for everything I do with it though)

Great Vic!

Sticking with it, are you?

(couldn't resist) :p

Well, it's going to be a slow weekend and I needed a project to keep my brain busy while my hands work on a Telecaster. Plus, it puts all this hibernating hardware to good use. It seems to be feeding a budding addiction to replace the cigarettes I'm cutting back on, as well. And all for a great cause. I just can't figure out how I've never heard of this before yesterday.

Yeah, yeah. I know: excuses excuses...

On a side note: The Lenovo S10-3 netbook has been added about an hour ago. Atom N450 1.6GHZ with 2GB RAM. So far, temps are staying between 61C and 63C with power management set for full processor use and no sleep 'til Brooklyn.

Right now they are at 83c, maybe keeping the a/c on nonstop helped lol. I have the fans pulling the head away but I probably would be better served having them blow the air on them

When I get home from camping this weekend, I'm gonna swap the hard drive out of my HTPC for a Windows 7 install and throw in my GTX 260 c216. Should be good for another 6-8k ppd

Did I setup my Linux VM to run bigadv correctly?

...so my front intake fan on my 600t was not spinning, the connectors are the only horrible aspect to this case. dropped 3-4c now.

With alot of help from Great members here we got the Asus Dually running in Native Linux.
The Dual E5-2650s are putting out 204688 PPD according to HFM. Thank you all for all the help. Still a lot to learn about this thing called Ubuntu.

@bmwbaxter

The VM doesn't run the folding, the folding client runs the cores, and the cores do the folding.

And that looks fine, but it doesn't show whether you set up the VM OK or not. Did you follow the recommendations that are in ChasR's instructions for it?

If so, you should be fine. If it crashes, the Secretary will disavow all knowledge of your VM setup actions... :p

Right now they are at 83c, maybe keeping the a/c on nonstop helped lol. I have the fans pulling the head away but I probably would be better served having them blow the air on them

Yes, that's more effective - push the air, or push and pull.

@Hardass: Congrats! That was a complicated set up!

That looks great, baxter. You've picked up a 6903 which is very good, brings in about 125-135KPPD on my rig. What speed is your 3930K running?

Adak, where can I find ChasR's instructions? I'd like to have a look at them to see if I did anything wrong.

Edit: just found this:

http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=685635

Guess it doesn't apply as I'm using virtual box.

Here is gret guide for VM VirtualBox setup. http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=699731 Stop at FAH Install and follow ChasR instructions here:
Code:
The ONLY thing that needs changing is the FAH install. The guide you're following is fine for VBox and Ubuntu. Sharing in Ubuntu is as close to automatic as it gets, unless you're trying to share the files that root owns.

You can start here in Ubuntu in your VM:
13. Open a terminal (Applications,Accessories,Terminal)and type mkdir -p FAH, which will create the FAH folder in your home directory.

14. Open Firefox and browse to here: http://folding.stanford.edu/English/Download . Download (save the file)v6.34 for Linux and BSD. It should be the first selection.

15. Using places browse to the Downloads folder. Right click on FAH6.34-Linux64.tgz, select open with archive manager, extract, and browse to the FAH folder you created earlier. Close all the open windows.

16. Browse to the FAH directory, right click on fah6, select Properties, permissions and check the allow executing file as a program box.

17. In System, Administration, select Update Manager and update. Don't upgrade to 11.04 as it will take forever. If you want to use 11.04 install it instead of 10.10. Creating another VM for 11.04 is faster than upgrading 10.10.

18. Browse to the FAH folder, right click on the folder, select sharing options, check the share this file. Samba will install. After Samba installs, restart your session, browse to the FAH folder, right click, sharing options and check the allow guest access and allow others to create and delete files box. Now you have the FAH folder shared on the network.

19. Hit Applichations, Accessories, text editor. Type:
cd ~/FAH
./fah6 -configonly

Save the file to the desktop as FAH -configonly

Delete the -configonly from the file and save as FAH start.

20. Right click on both FAH icons on the desktop, propreties, permissions, check the allow executing the file as a program box.

21. Double click on the FAH -configonly icon and configure FAH. Be sure to enter -smp and -verbosity 9 in the extra parameters of advanced configuration. Optionally you can add the flags to the shortcut.

22. Double click on FAH start and you're folding.

Thanks freeagent! Great having another folder in the race!!

lol. no I am not using ChasR's guide. Didn't know of it's existance, I am using the brief explanation that Fever gave on the previous pages. Everything seems to be okay. it is taking about 40mins to complete a frame. Getting about 105K PPD. which is about double of a regular SMP unit PPD.

That looks great, baxter. You've picked up a 6903 which is very good, brings in about 125-135KPPD on my rig. What speed is your 3930K running?

4.3 GHz on my 3930k. Anymore than that and my mobo throttles. due to VRM temps, I am using the Asrock X79 Extreme4-M. A nice board but not the best for a high OC in a case. :( I have a fan on it currently, but I am not sure how I will rig that for 24/7 daily use. I might have to settle for 4.0 GHz.

I got the last of my hardware set up today.
Total equipment running for the cc:
4 rigs-
Intel 3570k
intel 2500k @4.5Ghz
intel g840
9600gt
8800gts

So after throwing in my laptop into the final stretch of the race here is my list of folding hardware as it stands:

Phenom II X4 810
Athlon II X4 630
8800GTS 512MB
Core2Quad 6600
Core2Duo P8400
