I have an old Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 750 GiB HDD that has developed bad sectors for the second time in its life. Bad sectors that resulted in a mangled partition table that had overlapping sectors. OK, so I run seagate's disk diagnostics (SeatoolD) and it fixes the bad sectors and comes back with a passed long test status. But when I looked at a SMART stats utility (found on the Ultimate Boot CD) for the drive it reports the drive as about to fail not only because of the 61 reallocated sectors but because of spinup retries, even worse the SMART utility reports this particular model of Seagate HDD as prone to failure.

I've already banged all the data off of the drive and retired it.
