umm, dude i think you're confusing heatsink with heatspreader
there's a difference.
this is an x800 core-

see, no heatspreader!
this is a 5900 core-

it has a heatspreader.
neither of those have heatsinks on (obviously) and cant be run without one.
the difference lies in the intermediate heat-spreader seen on the 5900 core, a piece of metal glued to the core underneath.

on ati,s website they have a screenshot of the X850 series.they have giant heatsinks!!!

since i never modify my gfx cards,i never see the heatspreader.
