What do you think would be a better upgrade? I only have about 100$ to spend. I'm looking at these

From what I understand the 9600 can be overclocked pretty high given the right circumstances and some luck. Don't think I've ever heard anything about 64meg 9500np's though.

Is it even worth an upgrade? I'm really itching for a new card I don't think my 8500 is doing my CPU justice right now. If you know of any better deals let me know.

Probably waiting a couple months would be the best idea but I would really like to sell my current card while I can still get 30 or 40 bucks for it :)

I would save a bit more money. You will see a performance increase, but not a lot, not worth $100. Save up for a 9600pro, for $145

Yea I figured that.....

64mb 9500's have 0% chance of softmodding right?

Hey I can dream can't I?

I am a little confused, are you saying it can or cannot mod to a 9500pro?

I don't see why it wouldn't be able to be modded to a 9500 Pro (or at least have a chance to do that) like Emericana said. There's no chance for the 256bit memory bus to make it a 9700, but there still is a chance to enable the four pipelines (which is the only difference between a 9500 and 9500 Pro).

so um, where do we stand on this? lol

Can the 9500 64mb go Pro?

Does anyone on the planet even have a 64mb 9500?

I thought enabling the extra 4 pipes made it a 9700 and just upping the core and mem speed made it a 9500 pro....Am I mistaken?

yes.

from Captain Hilts post:

no 256 bit bus usage because there are only 4 ramchips the card can adress.

upping the core and mem speed is only the difference between 9700 and 9700pro

Remember that the chance of enabling the four extra pipes is only something like 50/50 though (although I've heard a lot of different percentages), but if you are successful then there wouldn't be anything that could beat it in that price range. It would be awesome to have a 9500 Pro for that price still.

Well I have no patience so I got the OEM R9500np 64mb from newegg and it softmodded succesfully with no artifacts whatsoever.

Went from a 3dmark score of 10090 ish with the 8500 to 15220 with softmod and 364/317 core/mem clock. Games are running like butter with 4x AA 4x AF I'm happy. :D
