Hi folks, long time no post, just not doing the PC thing right now, so I'm a bit outta touch. My wife needs a new basic PC.

She doesn't game.

I have a:
PSU
HDD
SSD
DVD
USB/flash reader etc
Case is still pretty good, ol' Antec 900 V1.

1080p monitor

I need:

Mobo/onboard graphics
Ram
CPU

All she does is word processing/Gmail, a old graphics proggy. Not much more.

Thinking of replacing the full setup with a much smaller box, so a ITX build with case/PSU would work too. No need for fans/keyboard/mouse etc. I have plenty of that.

Hope folks can help me, I'm pretty sure I can figure it out but looking for a good price ideas.

why not look at microcenters amd apu/motherboard bundles?
might be right up your alley.

I would grab a cheap mATX and a hassy based i3

8GB of cheap 160 at MC you can get 30 off the board if you buy the CPU there

This combo and some RAM, there's your ITX build

Takes a standard PSU, and I would just get 2x2GB 1600MHz RAM.

Conumdrum, I just picked up a APU/Mobo combo for my Dad and am pretty impressed with it. Though it's probably overkill for your wife and my dads needs.

well if you dont mind setting up linux

or
http://hardkernel.com/main/products/prdt_info.php?g_code=G137510300620

difference being the latter uses the newer Samsung Arm cpu, with a PowerVR chipset vs mali. though i willing to bet the ODROID-U3 CE is going to be more then enough for her needs. will use about as much power as some smartphones.

soon as i get things worked out money wise, since i lost my job a while back. my current job doesnt pay what i use to make and i barly get 20hrs atm. i plan on getting both to mess with in linux, but you also have the choice for the U3 of getting andriod on the eMMC.

Wow even with a cut n paste of caddi's' link I get a 404 error.

AMD Sempron 3850 1.3GHz Socket FS1b 25W Quad-Core Desktop Processor AMD Radeon HD 8280
ASRock AM1B-ITX AM1 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Mini ITX AMD Motherboard
Cooler Master Elite 130 - Mini-ITX Computer Case with Mesh Front Panel and Water Cooling Support

That's the 3 item combo

Only problem I have with that case is that it slides around all over the place because the feet are hard plastic. For your uses though, that case could be quite large for a mITX.

Pimp your wife's PC a little. Here is a build with some horsepower.
Throw in a chunky SSD and it'll fly.
