I need a new PC for Battlefield 4 and CAD and I'm not too knowledgeable in the designing of computers.

I have
i7-3770
ASUS P8Z77-V LK
CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB 1600MHz
GIGABYTE GV-R795WF3-3GD Radeon HD 7950 3GB 384-bit
Western Digital WD Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM
SAMSUNG 840 Series MZ-7TD120BW 2.5" 120GB
ZALMAN CNPS9900ALED 120mm

Yeah I second the above, unless you have some special need (like needing a six core processor, i7 3930k, etc) you should get the newest processors and mobos avail.

Would it be better to down grade the CPU and up grade the graphics? I have had several people tell me that for my gaming and CAD I don't need an i7 processor

You'd probably be fine with a i5 4570k for gaming, not too sure about CAD as I'm not experienced with it... I have heard CAD uses more GPU than CPU, though.

To me I would actually stick with a 3770k instead of going to he 4 series. To me the $100-200 saved is worth more to me than the slight improvements of the 4 series. Unless u have to have the top of the line I would stick with the 3 series.

k on the end = Overclockable. Without the k at the end there's no point.

No dedicated graphics card? For games you'll want one for sure.

So far it looks like Haswell (4xxx) is not much better than ivy (3xxx) for overall performance but it would likely be more future proof. (4xxx is socket 1150 compared to 1155 for 3xxx. They aren't going to make any more socket 1155 cpus/motherboards anymore).

The x5x0 CPUs don't have hyperthreading (4 cores 4 threads)
The x7x0 CPUs do have hyperthreading (4 cores 8 threads)

For 99% of games there's no difference between the two. I'm not sure about CAD.

So far it looks like Haswell (47xx) is not much better than ivy (37xx) for overall performance but it would likely be more future proof. (47xx is socket 1150 compared to 1155 for 37xx. They aren't going to make any more socket 1155 cpus/motherboards anymore).

The xx50 CPUs don't have hyperthreading (4 cores 4 threads)
The xx70 CPUs do have hyperthreading (4 cores 8 threads)

no the 4570k is does not have HT
i5 do not have hyperthreading
i7s do have hyperthreading

get haswell CPU
its well worth the alittle extra you would get the new socket and have the ability to upgrade later
1155 will have no more CPUs added

this, since you already have Ivybridge.

And no way would I get a quadro card as first, they are expensive as Hell, second, they suck at games.

You don't need to do ANYTHING to that PC for gaming, fine as it is.

Build a Quadro CAD PC for your work.

What are you talking about? The 3770K is listed at $319.99 on newegg while the 4770K is $349.99

danstar1123, I'd stick with the 3770K you have now. If anything just change to a Quadro graphics card. I didn't realize you already had the cpu.
