Are these good? I dont want to spend over 70 bucks on headphones, and those got great reviews. Are there any better alternatives? I just wanted to check here first before I bought them. thanks.

edit: also, I am using onboard audio....should i upgrade this first? Then get expensive headphones?

would this be a good enough sound card for those headphones?

Or should I spend more....

edit: another question....

I have this plugged into the onboard sound

and them my headphones plugged into that, does this decrease quality? If so, does it do it A LOT? when I get my soundcard, can I still plug that stereo into the new card, and the new headphones into the stereo? would that lower quality?

"Gaming" headphones, generally speaking, are gimmicky and have poor comfort and sound quality.
If you're serious about picking up a pair of good cans, consider either a pair of Grado SR-60's or Sennheiser HD 497's. (both in the $60 range)

For comparison, i'm wearing Senn HD 555's as I type this, worth buying if you can pick them up used or willing to drop ~120 for them.

In closing, buy real headphones, not gaming headphones, it's not like they're going to make you play better, and they usually sound worse and are less comfortable.

to answer your second question, it's possible that plugging your headphones into the stereo system could actually make them sound better, if you have a pretty bad sound card, just be sure not to double amp the signal, turn the pc volume way down or use line out.

but honestly, trial and error is the only way to tell if it sounds better. try it without the stereo and try it with, change settings, whatever you think sounds best is probably best.
