Official Wolfdale E8400/E8500 OC Reports

Hey guys,

Finally, Dual-Core 45nm technology is officially available since a few days already, and for over-clocking those baddies are the days to come! I was inspired by ghost_recon88's post in the currently popular E8400 thread, and so I decided to start a "proper" thread for reports on over-clocking and the results you guys come up with, either with your lovely E8400 or E8500. The reports should be written in the following format (note that all images will be welcome, as far as it concerns your OC attempts hehe!):

Code:
[B][I]CPU[/I][/B]:
[B][I]ES/Retail[/I][/B]:
[B][I]Batch #[/I][/B]:
[B][I]Ship/Packaging Date[/I][/B]:
[B][I]Voltage(s) (Stock/OC'ed)[/I][/B]:
[B][I]Frequency(ies) (OC'ed)[/I][/B]:
[B][I]Motherboard[/I][/B]:
[B][I]BIOS[/I][/B]:
-----
*[B][U]Extra[/U][/B]* [B][I]Memory(ies) (Timing(s))[/I][/B]:
*[B][U]Extra[/U][/B]* [B][I]Memory(ies) (Voltage(s))[/I][/B]:
*[B][U]Extra[/U][/B]* [B][I]Third Party Cooling Solution[/I][/B]:
*[B][U]Extra[/U][/B]* [B][I]Paste(s)/Compound(s)/Other(s)[/I][/B]:
-----
[B][I]Additional Comment(s)[/I][/B]:

The "Extra"'s are just that, extra information you could add. And the format above is modifiable as you see fit. You want to remove, add or change one of them or all of them? Go ahead and do it, but make sure that your information is as accurate and corroborative as possible for your own sake and for everyone else's comparison efficiency's sake. I myself will either edit or post later when I finish building my system and come up with my first over-clocking results. My own E8400 should be here by tomorrow after noon if everything goes well (wish me luck!).

Enjoy!

Additional Comment(s): I can go higher with higher voltages, around 4.2 GHz seems to be a sweet spot. Around that zone, VCore needs to go up exponentially for Prime stability. I can go a fair amount higher and Prime for 20 minutes, but not full 8 hours.

Additional Comment(s): Dissappointed with the phase results of this chip, maybe I was expecting too much, 4.64ghz superpi 1m Stable (9.625s), 4.5ghz stable with 1.55v, wanted to keep it under 1.45v for daily use for 4.32ghz is the daily clock was hoping for 4.5+ :( guess its time to sell this and buy an E8500

EDIT: Last night I was in a hurry overclocking, didnt have time for thebasics, tonight Im realising my ram isnt so stable above 530 or so, So im gonna get some new ram and see what happens. Might have some more speed in her yet

Just got it. Won't get it in something until I get my mobo in, so OC news next week. This will pop right into an IP35, right? If not...we're going to have issues :(

2/8 Update
I'm another one with stuck temps until load. Coretemp has mine at 45°C consistently. At stock, under Prime95, I get load temps of ~46/51. Pretty nice. Except it doesn't stay that way :(.

Anyway, was going to test the limits of my memory at stock timings, but couldn't get memtest to boot for some reason, so I went with 450FSB as a reasonable OC for my ramchips. Stock (auto) vcore was enought at 7x multi (3150). 8x multi wouldn't boot to windows at auto stock, so raised to 1.275 (vdroops to 1.17 or so) and booted. Failed prime95 badly, raised vcore to 1.325 (1.22 vdroop - current setting). Now running for >1.5 hours and looking good. Except for load temps. 57/61 in Coretemp. That's a 10°C rise over temps at stock . Of course, we all know the temp sensors are having issues, but still.

Now having that info in mind...goal is to get to 4050 with a vcore below 1.275 drooped. Should be doable, if others with my batch are any indication :)

Still don't like the temps.

2/9 Update
Tried to push upwards today, so went to 9x430. Was not prime stable at 1.325 BIOS. Was not stable 1.375 BIOS. Was stable at 1.405 (1.29/1.30 with droop). Temps shot up to 61/65. Essentially I'm will not vcore any higher until I can get accuarate temp readings (or at least get confirmation my load temps are being reported correctly, if they are that high).

So now 450x8 at 1.305 in BIOS (1.2 with droop) and probably staying that way until Abit releases a new official BIOS. Or until I get around to flashing to 16b9. I really don't like those temps.

Additional Comment(s): Very high VID! Conroes with high VID often didnt respond well to vcore increase, looks like thats true also for 45nm, but i only played with it for 30-40 minutes so far and dont have much more time for now, later again.
Edit 3: No way to get it prime stable at 4.2 with less than 1.425v. Load temps are 52/52.

EDIT 4: Need 1.45v now, and corrected a typo, vdimm is 2.25v (obviously for some, would be hard to run these timings on only 2.15). I dont know whats going on with the vCore, sometimes temps are like 56 and sometimes around same as i had on 1.425v. Maybe i need to try activating the voltage damper for a few days, this could be a board problem.
Max OC tested so far: 9x480 = 4.32GHz, vcore 1.525.
