I just got an ubuntu system set up, and I want ot use it to maintain my internet connection, and pass it through to my other computers on my network. I don't have a good router, or a good switch, nor do I have the cash to buy one.
Currently I have my DSL modem plugged into a (vary) basic ethernet hub (no router) and my other computers plugged into the hub. Needless to say, the internet is slower than dialup when more than one computer is accessing it.
I will shortly have three computers networked. Two decent ones, and one old POS. OSs are Unbuntu and XP-MCE05 on the two good ones and nothing on the old one I'm thjinking of trying a dual Win98 and Damn Small Linux.
My goal is to use the Ubuntu system to connect to my DSL modem (and filter windows hachers/etc) and then use a seperate network card to run it to the other computers on my network.
Does this look like it could work? While I'm still new at linux I'm catching on quick. But I don't know any tricks yet.
