or good headphones (cheaper and better audio quality)

also, buy creative or turtle beach sound cards, because they.. you know, install when you tell them to, as opposed to no name brand.

I have to agree, you hear WAY much more with good headphones than you would with speakers. What do you usually do with your system? If its mainly gaming, then Creative is the best way because of EAX 5.0.

well for speakers i was going to go with the logitech x-530, and i would like to spend $100 on a soundcard

The X-530s are decent speakers in their price range, but for that price I think you would be better off with a decent pair of headphones. If youre going to spend $100 on a soundcard youll need some form of speakers/headphones to take full advantage of the hardware. You will notice an immediate difference just by going to X soundcard and those Logitecs, but the speakers would still be limiting you. Theyre not bad by any means, but you get what you pay for.

Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 4 Pro 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Interface Sound Card
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16829102181
$99.99 (-$150.00 Instant Savings)
-If you can cop these with the sale price (currently out of stock, but I managed to get it when it was in stock after being out of stock the night before), I would snag those.

Otherwise I'd get an Xplosion:
AuzenTech XPlosion 7.1 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Card
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16829156001
$94.99 (-$35.00 Instant Savings)
If you can't get the Creative within a few days of hawk-eyeing it for them to come in stock, I'd snag this while it's $35 off.
