Question switches

looking for a decent switch, and wanted your opinion. Which switch do you think is better, the Cisco Catalyst 2950 24 x 10/100 Ethernet Switch, or the Netgear FS524 24 Port 10/100Mbps Ethernet Switch ?

Well, can't go wrong with anything by Cisco when it comes to networking. If this is just for your home I would be a little concerned about the price though. The NetGear switch would be more than serviceable if using for a home network.

I agree with Jon. We use cisco's at work and have no problems. I have a Netgear 4 port hub and a 8 port router and have had no problems with either.

wheatbix,
If you have the money for a cisco, then by all means go for that. IMO cisco = overkill for home network. Their are many 4, 8 ports 100mb switches out there that will perform just as well as a cisco for much less.

If your going for the Cisco Switch be sure to know somethings about cisco IOS (cisco operation system).

There´s a lot off things your can configurate with IOS:
-Several security measures to access the switch (telnet, console, priveleged mode, password encryption)
- Vlans
- port security, etc..
