can i use this 586 rpm on my 686?

can i use that on my 686 smp machine? i tryed the tarball way and have failed so id like to try the rpm way seeing as i wont have a problem because they have them for my specific kernal and distro. only thing is the 586 problem?

Yes, it's just like running an i386 on an i686, it just means the i586 wont run on a 486 or 386.
