A friend of mine is buying(yes buying...he tried to build, but his brother kept screwing his parts up so he chucked the idea an bought a alienware $$$$ system)

Anyhow he is getting a Dual MP 2000(didn't know the dealt with AMD stuff). Also containes an eVga GF4 Ti4600 and a 20" LCD monitor...(and I was proud of my new 19"kds xf-9e...)

My question is I wonder how well something like that would FOLD

I'll certainly pitch the idea to him...

AMD folds alot faster than Intel does,a dual AMD rig would do alot of WU's fast.I dont own a dual but, from what i've seen they install 2 clients on them, one for each processer. If I'm wrong about this someone correct me please.

That thing should do very good. Definitely pitch it to him, it should be good for at least 75 points a week(probably more like 100). Good luck with it.;)

Yup that thing will fold nicely. Here is a clip on a MP2000 (no OC)
Just imagine that one times two

I've got two Asus MPX boards with [email protected].

Since I just converted from SETI 3 days ago, I have no idea how well they really do, but I do know they rip throught the WUs.

I'm at #4 on the daily producers list as of right now and those two rigs account for half of my total CPU power. You definately want that folding for us.

Cool....I'll work extra hard to get him to at least TRY it out. Maybe get him caught up in the competition. I used to be his supervisor until he transfered to another dept(or get layed off...he got to go to a dept he liked much better*electronics*)

I also deliver his US Mail part-time :p He'll probably be easy to get folding if for only a little while.

Get that thing Folding!!

I have a pair of MP 2000+s folding at 1715mhz each and they ROCK. No idea how many pts/week it churns out but it does it fast. Exactly twice as fast as one system.

Got one here... dual Duron 1.2's @1310... definitely a flyin' folder. In fact, to anyone thinking about building a dedicated folding box, a refurb Tyan S2460 and a pair of Durons are a great deal and will work well considering the relatively little cash spent on other things. Gotta figure a dual rig would fold just as much as two single machines... only gotta buy/scrouge 1 video card, 1 NIC, 1 case, 1 HDD, etc... instead of two of each.

Yep, for a dedicated folder you get the most WUs for your money if you use duals. On a budget you can't add machines as fast but when you do you end up with more horsepower.

dual xp1800's even at stock speed fold very fast :D
dual MP2000's will fold even faster ;)
You just need to setup 2 text clients. EMIII can handle starting and stopping/configuring/hiding of both clients and setup for them is rather easy.

oh yeah. I learned the hard way - duallies prefer reg'd ddr ;)
