How hot is your t-bred?

Just got my WC setup running, looking for reassurance

Athlon XP 2200+, 1955MHz (11.5X170), 1.75V. Epox 8K3A+ (on-die thermistor). Ambient is 22C, water is 28C, CPU load (Prime 95 for 3 hours) is around 53C.

I know the on-die reads high, and up to 70C shouldn't be a problem. But how is this relative to what you are getting?

If you can, post ambient, CPU load, and O/C (mult, FSB). No offence, but no in-socket temps please - they are just not realistic for comparison here.

He was thinking Thunderbird, T-Bird. vandersl wants thoroughbred, T-Bred. T-Bred's start at 2200+, 1.8 GHZ.

Yea, that is why I was asking and clarifying.

Well, I got one response for the t-bred anyway.

Guess not too many OC members have taken the plunge yet.

I'm barely able to eek out 2GHz on this chip, and it gets way hot due to the reduced die size. Thinking maybe I should have gone pally, but the unlocking was soooo much easier on this one.

At least I have a comfortable 53C at 1955MHz OC and it's quiet as a mouse. Loudest sound coming from it is the power supply fan - and its an Enermax Whisper

It hasn't done anything in this case. It is either the same as XP temps, or hotter

Well, according to Watts Calculator III:

Athlon XP 2200+ tbred: 18000MHz, 1.65V = 68W, 80mm^2
Athlon XP 2100+ Pally: 1800MHz, 1.75V = 75W, 120mm^2

2200+ uses 91% of the power, with only 66% of the area. This is the root of the problem.

running 226w bong cooled pelt at 2.15Ghz, 38c under load. At 2.2Ghz getting 44c under load.

Thanks, everything I read(before t-breds came out0 said that shrinking the die allows it to run cooler.

the t bred probably runs cooler ( there for the watts calculator is right), however the smaller die size gives less cooling area so you get higher temps- i think at least

On my bong setup with just a water block, the return water is cooler. This agrees with the less heat theory however due to the small area of contact it does run hotter, much hotter.

BillA,

Using the Swifty MCW462-UH now. I think the thicker base gives it an edge on the super-thin Maze3.

an addendum:

generated with a 10x10mm heat die
Watts shown are 'real', multiply by 1.3 or 1.4 for 'Radiate Watts'

while the slope depends on the actual wb, they are not radically different
- this is from a typical labyrinth, a LiquidCC - Surge

yes it runs cooler but with the reduced die size you would have to run .875 vcore to get the equal temp for a XP aty 1.75vcore

but.....tbred DOES NOT run at .875 vcore its at 1.65 so its way hot

is there any reason for the smaller die other than them being able to say, "hey, we maske smaller dies" ?
