different fan volts?

i know i read a thread somewhere about using specific wires out of the 4 pin molex connectors to get different voltages than 12v. i cant find it again! if someone knows the info, or the link, i would greatly appreciate it! (i think maybe 7v and 5v)

oh, and directron is like 10 minutes from my house, you'd be amazed at how unorganized those people are, but i've gotten stuff from them and they're alright.
do you know if just twisting the wires together and electrical tape over the connect works fine?
