I'm relatively new to the overclocking scene, but just got a new system put together and have been having pretty good luck so far with one exception.
Win XP will run for hours fine overclocked. Under normal load the case is at 36C and the CPU around 50C (apparently high reported temps are expected for this MB per the postings here).
My only issue is that after my computer is turned OFF for a while, when powering it up, the bios basically beeps with a POST code of A7 (usually meaning memory not seated correctly, right? - trust me, they're fine). Sometimes if I reset it 10-15 times it will finally boot up fine (overclocked), and worse case I have to reset the bios with the jumper. Then I have to go in and restore the bios to my settings again. Also, often when I do a "restart", it shuts down Windows but I have to turn the power off and manually power up again.
Any ideas? Am I doing something wrong? Are my voltage settings for the memory wrong? Is Kingston impossible to work with (bought them before deciding to overclock)?
My system:
Abit IT7 Max (Bios v 9W)
Kingston KVR266X64C25 (512MB PC2100 266MHZ CL2.5 DDR) x 2
ATT (Advanced Thermal Technologies) all copper heat sink
Lian Li Aluminum case w/3 fans (2 in, 1 out)
400 Watt PSU w/2 fans
Windows XP Pro
So far, I've been able to get it up to 2.9Ghz (not for long), but most stable (running continual 3DBench2001 tests) at 2.6Ghz with the following bios settings:
CPU 153Mhz x 17
PCI 37Mhz fixed
DRAM 1:1
Vcore 1.6v
DDR 2.5v
Thanks in advance - these are great boards & an amazing resource site!
