P3-S has a long life?

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=4644

"Nocona processors using the Lindenhurst chipset will appear in blade servers in the first half of 2004, and the Pentium III-S/512K cache chips have a long life ahead of them -- being in the same segment until at least the second half of 2004." Quote

Does this mean that the 1.53GHz, and 1.67GHz Pentium3-S CPUs will actually be released? I have seen the prototype for the 1.53GHz Pentium3-S but I didnt know if Intel was ever even going to release the CPU.

Wow, that's getting me to think, and plus the P3-S CPUs are going to get a 50% price hack soon so this will for sure intise some of us to upgrade from older CPUs.

That would certainly be nice. I like my Tually Celeron but a P3-S would be even nicer for my SETI times.

cool! bx lives on with lower prices

While P4 steams ahead its nice to see P3-s's lower in price.
I'm not paying 300 clams for 1.4 gig which is the same price as 2 gig p4.

P3c-d w/dual 1.53ghz w/powerleap should be interesting

P3-S gets a 40~50% price hack on September 1st! I bet thats what everyone is wanting to hear!!

So, in Canadian prices, the 1.4GHz P3-S should be had for $190. Thats about $140 US.

And dont you forget that
just wait till i get board of the 1.1A....
then i will get another CPU.....

I can just see it now...
150+ FSB with 512K full speed L2 cahce on a BX board.....
*drooling all over my keyboard*

Although by 2004, i should Also have another 64bit computer at my BX's side..... But the BX board will be alive and running.
I still think i am going to die when the BX does.....
And it aint anytime soon !

Guys, I rode the bx train for a long time, and it was great, but paying 250 dollars for a p3 is nuts. A 1.6a is a 150 dollar cpu (or less), and you can buy a 1.6a and a competent motherboard for the same 250 you spend on a P3. I just replaced my P3B-F (running 150fsb cas 2 for 2.5 years ) with a P4S533, a 1.6a, and (what was a month ago) a cheap 256MB PC2700 module. The performance boost over my P3-700 at 1050MHz is astronomical, and will humble a 1.4GHz P3-s as well. While I love the efficiency of the BX/P3 platform, I'm not paying more to ride that bus than a nice northwood costs.

regards,
larva

PS-Just so you'll know how much I loved BX, here is a list of my old BX rigs...

P2-233 at 310MHz
P2-300 at 450MHz
C333 at 550MHz
P3-450 at 600MHz
P3-550e at 825MHz
P3-600e at 900MHz
P3-700 at 1050MHz

I must have had 10 different BX boards in all

MHz per MHz the P3(256K) core spanks the P4 core.....
MHz per MHz it is about the same as a T-bird running with SDRAM...

Now add some 512 L2 cache into the mix....
and we have some really fast CPU's on our hands.
