help please, corsair 3200 spec says limit is 167mhz?

wooaah....sondra is telling me that my corsair has an upper limit of 167mhz @ CL2 or CL2.5. Is this true? Did I get a bum RAM or is this par for the course?

167Mhz has been my magical limit that i can successfully run a burn in without freezing! Coincidence?

How high does your ram overclock. It doesn't matter what Sandra reports. Is it Platinum 3200 with Winbond or regular 3200 with Samsung? The Winbond version is much better.

How do i know how fast the ram overclocks?
all i know is my fsb is 166 and i cant boot with a 4:5 ram. ive gotta do 1:1. so i can only get 166mhz on the ram. i remember somewhere that this ram could do 200mhz but i'll be damned if i know how to isolate and test that.

How do i know if its platinum or samsung? i wish i would have known about this before getting it. i always seem to find these boards too late! it says v2.1 on the sticker. it has a black heat spreader.

You've got the new Windbond ram, since it's the 2,1 version. And when running this at 166 with 4:5, you are running this at DDR 415. (166/4*5) Maybe the ram settings are a bit agressive.. Try lovering to fsb 160, DDR 400

I've read that it also seems that 2 sticks of ram don't overclock as well as 1 stick for some reason. Try pulling one and se what happens.

thanks. well, actually i only have 1 stick of ram in there. its a 512MB chip, model # in my 1st post.

why does sandra report it like theres 2, i dont know.

now the interesting part-----the only way i could get 4:5 to work was to lower the fsb all the way down to 133mhz. that would give me a RAM timing of 166mhz. and this is what sandra was saying my max ram timings were anyway!

so thats why i was wondering if perhaps the ram which is supposed to be good was actually holding me back.

basically, i cannot get

1) greater than fsb 166 @ 1.1
2) 4:5 timings unless i put fsb down to 133mhz.

what does that tell us?

You need to back the memory timings off, that ram is supposed to be able to run 2.5-3-3-6-T2 at 200Mhz.
