What should I put my voltage at?

Well I bought another PSU running the Hd, cdrom, a few fans, and floppy (would run other things, but ran out of cables). I have enough power now, and running at 145 FSB. In order to go higher I need to change voltages on vcore. And I have no idea to set them at. I don't even now what default voltage is. Please help!

Do you not have a restore to defaults in your BIOS? I'd suggest defaulting your BIOS and slowly pushing your voltage up.

Could I go from default to the highest voltage setting?

Probably...but it rather heavily depends on what kind of cooling you have.

And to be able to give you specifics about your system, it helps to know what your system is...

Set Defaults in bios- or there may be a choice between "default" or "user" for voltages- cpu and mobo types would help....

As far as how high to go: I think the best method (except for burn-ins) is to start at default and start overclocking: when the system gets unstable push the voltage up 1 setting (you may need to adjust ram volts up too.)

Higher voltages DO help, but some chips just don't respond as well: don't put the voltage any higher than actually helps....

And higher voltages mean more heat= higher cpu temps.

and HEAT is the Enemy!!!!!

XP default voltavge is 1.75v

I wouldnt up the voltage over 1.95v at any point unless your temps permit it like with great air cooling or water cooling.

I guess I could bump the voltage up alittle bit and bump the fsb alittle bit also.

Update: I have the voltage at 1.775 and at 146 fsb. I am running sandra right now and it hasnt crashed on me(yet).

You should use prime95 torture test to check for stability while overclocking its the only way to go.

I use Seti@Home to test OC Stability: If it will run Seti 24/7 for a week or two non-stop, its usually pretty stable

Folding@Home works great as well.

But that does take longer....and get you involved with a team (whichever one you choose) of great people.

Prime is MUCH faster to crash an unstable system.
