Intel 486DX2 with IBM 419 mobo

I took off the processor from an old system but I forgot to take note of which way it'll go and since the pins are the same on all sides theres no way of figuring it out Can someone tell me which way to put it in??? (The obvious trial and error is not possible as I don't have anything but the computer , no cables, no screen no nothing.)
Oh and the mobo's socket 3 is bigger than the CPU so that no matter which way I put it in, there's a row of pins that's empty all around the CPU. Did 486 CPUs come in different sizes???
Oh and a funny thing: even with the CPU out, when I power it up, it says : 33Mhz. I always knew these displays were BS but that's taking it a bit far dontcha think???

There's a small dot at the corner of the CPU, If you look at the socket you'll notice there are a few holes missing (outer row) that's were the dot should be, also- most likely there's a 1 printed on the MOBO, again that's were the dot should be.

Can't tell you for sure bout the other stuff as I went from 386-->PI-->PII before I got a 486.

As I recall, chips up through 486s (and probably most Pentiums) weren't programmed with a certain speed. The bus speed and multiplier were always a function of the motherboard. So I'm not surprised the system reported the chip speed even without a chip installed.
