can anyone help me fix my grapics card problem

ok i hope someone on here can help, my pc keeps crashing

it will work ok, then just crash without warning,

i.e

1, if im on the desktop the mouse will just freeze?

2, if im playing a game, the game will freeze,

3, even if im surfing the net, it will freeze !!

theres no set time it will freeze sometimes it will freeze after 5 mins, sometimes after 1 hour ?

heres the things ive tryed,

1, formatted and changed os

2, checked the memory and it seems ok,

3, checked cpu temp, ( around 44" )

4, tryed latest drivers in my graphics card?

5, checked for conflicts, which there were none

but as im now useing win xp, im concinced its my graphics card,
because win xp reports this error,

"the display driver for the geforse seems to be responsible for the system" instabiliy,

szAppName : Drivers.Display szAppVer : 10DE0150A400000000
szModName : nv4_disp.dll szModVer : 6.13.10.2890 Offset : EB4A06EA

im now 100% sure its the driver

i tryed downloading the latest detornator drivers but it still freezes ??

well i am useing the grapgics card but i have disabled it, and it dont freeze?????
my pc works ok?

please can anyone advice me on what to do to fix this problem??

my graphics card is a gefrose 2 gts pro 64, if that helps

thanx

hello jjcool, welcome to the forums.

this might not be your problem but there is a general troubleshooting guide in the article which may be of some help.
there was a very popular problem in the past named Infinite Loop and ppl at the viaarena forums managed to collect a lot info about it and then the article came up: http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=64. despite that you may want to try out the video card in another system so you make sure its not defective.

What's your 5v reading? If you download MotherboardMonitor (free program) you can find out. If your reading is low ie: 4.5 then that could be the problem with your system instability.

what other things are in your system? how much ram? what kind of processor? etc. that would really be helpful too. cause to me it sounds like a memory problem, not a graphics problem.

Your +3.3v line seems awfully low, well below the in-spec 5% deviation. +3.3 feeds your CPU, memory, and all slots. That includes your graphics card. You may need a better power supply. Another possibility is an incompatible older motherboard that cannot provide sufficient voltage for the AGP. What card and motherboard are you using?

I had the same problem with my last setup. I had to change the AGP multiplier to X1 to avoid occasional freezing. My motherboard was an ASUS TUA266. I blame the VIA Apollo chip set for this problems. I thought it was the video card at first so I bought the GeForce 4 MX440 and put it in and had the exact same problems. It did run fine with my old TNT2 32meg and that's what I sold it with. Both the Geforce 2 and 4 work fine in my new system.

The problem isn't with the VIA chipset, because it does it on Intel chipsets as well. According to M$ it's your drivers that are corrupted, possibly your chipset drivers as well.

Link to M$ article.

I was actually working on trying to narrow down the cause of the problem, and the one thing that came up every single time was the video drivers. It is NOT DirectX related at all. The native drivers that come with XP will automatically cause this problem. With Win2K, I had to install the updated drivers for it to give me the error. I spent hours in my free time at my former job trying to figure out a work around or a fix. With no luck. Apparently the updated Nvidia drivers were supposed to have corrected this, but I geuss not.

I disagree...I tryed every driver availible. XP, Asus, generic GeForce 2/4, you name it I tried it. Same card worked fine on my the VR6 I had before the TUA266.

Make sure to check out the M$ Hardware compatibility List.

slim_lim is right. the problem is prolly due to the low voltages.
you should try running the system only with the necessary components (vid card, HD, one memory stick), or with another PSU.

check also for a jumper or a setting in the BIOS of the VIO voltage and try raising it.

I find that MBM5 doesn't report accurate voltage reading.
