Angry image simulation scsi cd rom device???? HELP!

i just installed a new hdd in my pc after my old one died, after spending a few hours installing my software i reset my pc and when my pc started windows xp informs me that it has "found new device and is installing drivers" once that was done i discovered that i had a new "image simulation scsi cd rom device" installed on my system, Any attempt to remove the device results in windows reinstalling every time i restart and when i disable the device in device manager my dvd rom wont read any disks..If i can even find a way to stop winxp from auto installing hardware at startup then i would be happy, someone please help
Craig

Edit: checked all cables and connections on system and everything is fine so i think it is a software issue

Do you happen to have a virtual CD (i.e. a prog that allows you to copy a CD to your HDD and mount it from there) app? Some CD recording progs also install those. Don't worry about it.
